Chapter 1: *unedited*
~Gwen's POV~
I ran into the publishing office quickly, throwing my latest story down on my desk. Apparently, there had been some kind of scam going around. Nothing too interesting, but did I ever get any interesting stories?
Let me answer that question for you.
No.
The interns don't get the good stories. I wish I could get an good story, even if it was just once.
The man who runs the newspaper office's name is J. Jonah Jameson. Believe me, he's as weird as his name is.
When I was done completing my story, I brought it into his office, laying it down in front of him. He was on the phone, as usual. Surprisingly, he hung up the phone and turned to me.
All the rest of the news reporters were already in here for a meeting. A meeting. There was supposed to be a meeting today! I was late.
I tried to ignore the glares. Mr. Jameson started to talk. "I'm sure you all know about the masked vigilante Spiderman." He started. Everyone, including me nodded they're heads.
"We need a story! Make it big! If you see him stealing something, breaking something! If you see him doing anything interesting or suspicious, get it on picture, write it down. We need to be the first with the news. Got it!" Everyone nodded.
"There is going to be big pay for this. Promotions! I need a good story on this. We need to prove Spiderman is a menace. Now get out there and get those stories! Now!" We all rushed out of his office.
I needed to get that story. I needed to prove to them I could be more than just the intern who covers all the dumb stories.
I needed to do this.
I went back to my desk. I also needed a plan. How would I find Spiderman? I needed to get his story as well. The only thing I really know is that he saves people. So how to find him?
I tried to think of the answer. Then the answer came to me.
I needed to get in trouble. Fake trouble, of course. Now I just needed a plan. A idea started stirring up inside my head. I called my friend, Flash. He wasn't so much a friend. More like a bully but he would work for the job.
That evening, I met Flash in an alleyway. He was making me pay him money so I could get into 'trouble'. The stupid punk. I didn't have many other options though.
He pushed my hands behind my back and 'shoved' me into the wall. "Give me all you're money, pretty lady." He sneered. He picked up my purse. "I bet you there's something in here." He said, slowly unzipping it. Cliche much? Oh well. It seemed that he was doing well in his drama classes.
"Help!" I screamed, "Somebody help me!"
I could hear someone nearby calling the police. Uh-oh.
I looked around for Spiderman but I didn't see him. Wasn't he supposed to help people?
No sooner had that thought rushed through my mind when I heard a quick swish right past my ear.
Flash had been kicked in the stomach and his hands were webbed against the wall. Oops.
I tried not to laugh. I was supposed to be a distressed, helpless citizen that had almost been robbed. It was hard to stay in character
Spiderman ran over to where I was after finishing up with Flash.
He grabbed my purse with his web shooters and slung it into my arms.
"Thanks." I stuttered. He helped me up. "No problem. It's part of the job? You okay?"
I nodded. "Can I ask you a question." I asked.
He turned in the direction the sirens were coming from. "Uh. Technically you just did but sure."
I noticed his voice was a bit muffled from the mask.
"Well, I'm Gwen Stacy, a newspaper reporter with the Daily Bugle. I would really like to get you're side of the story. Maybe clear up you're name?" I asked.
The sirens were getting closer.
"Well... That's. That's very nice of you, but I've got to run.." He started.
I interrupted him, hurriedly scribbling down my number on a piece of paper. I shoved it in his hand.
"If you change you're mind, let me know. Just know I might be the only one trying to help you." I said.
"Well. Okay. Now I need to give you something." He said.
He ripped the paper I gave him in half, making sure not to rip the number and took the pen out of my hand.
He scribbled something down quickly on the paper.
A police car pulled around the corner.
He gave me the piece of paper, and then shot a web at the side of the nearest building, disappearing as quickly as he had come.
I glanced at the note.
Talk to you soon maybe :)
Love, you're friendly neighborhood Spiderman.
