Chapter 21- Powers

Volterra

I was walking down a narrow tunnel which kept descending as I went further. The lighting was very dim and a normal human being would have had a hard time keeping up but I could see each and every thing perfectly. The temperature was a bit colder than outside but I barely registered it. My strong sense of smell picked up various scents-mold,lichens,wet stone,the appealing scent of humans and various vampires. I frowned and looked around. I was panicking inside; my brain was screaming at me to turn away and run or to defend myself but outside it was as if my body wasn't in my control. It felt like my movements were being controlled by someone else.

Two hooded figures were walking on either side of me. They maintained a close distance to me, their stances casual yet slightly defensive as if they expected me to lash out at any moment. Behind me, I could sense another vampire. I had gotten a glimpse of his face before we entered the underground tunnel and knew that he was a male. His footfalls were very soft and he glided behind me with a cat-like gracefulness. I recognized the Volturi guards beside me as Alec and Felix. I was being leaded straight to the royalty of the vampire world- Aro, Caius and Marcus.

I wanted to scream out loud. I had no control over myself and I was just walking into the den of the lion. I tried slowing my pace but without any success. Even simple tasks such as moving my fingers were impossible. I entered the elevator along with Felix and Alec and the unknown member. He wore coal black Volturi robes which signified his high rank among the Volturi guard although I had never seen him before. The elevator stopped at the lower level and we all got out and started walking towards the huge doors that led to Aro. I was doomed. Jasper- I thought suddenly. I would never see Jasper again. I love you Jazz, I love you- I thought frantically. If these were going to be my last few moments as a vampire then no power in this world could take my mind off Jasper.

Felix pushed the doors open and ushered us all inside. It was the same as usual, the same carpeting, the same white marble and...Aro, Caius and Marcus seated on their thrones in the middle of the great hall.

As soon as Aro saw me he made a noise which was a mix between a high pitched cackle and a scream. He was wearing his usual deep black robe and his dark hair rested just above his shoulder in an immaculate style.

"Alice is here, Alice is here!" He cried out as he shot up from his throne and surged forward towards me. I couldn't even flinch as I had no control over my body movements.

"Oh dear, has Gustav been troubling my dear Alice?" He chuckled as he did a hand motion towards the unknown person beside me who was apparently called Gustav. All of a sudden, I was in control of my body again. I clenched and unclenched my fists and looked up at Aro

"What have you done to me, Aro? What is the meaning of all this?" I asked him, feeling bold all of a sudden.

"Dear, I think it's time you joined my ranks officially." He said as he motioned Caius forward. Marcus just kept sitting at his throne, looking uninterested and unconcerned.

I tried focusing my mind onto my visions but I could see nothing except darkness. Aro chuckled again and I opened my eyes.

"What have you done to me?" I asked him, my voice barely above a whisper.

"Oh nothing, just showing off our power. We have grown quite a bit since the last time you saw us." Caius replied instead, leering at me.

"She is here now, let her see." Aro motioned again with his hand to another vampire that was standing just behind him. Instantly I felt lighter and a vision struck me
