Carissa
It all started one day, back a few years. I had met this girl and she was fantastic, and we became great friends, and I fell hard for her. We'd stay up late texting and talking on the phone. It's funny how at one moment you can be great, and the next, you don't know who they are anymore. This is the story of how love can be the greatest, and yet at the same time, the worst. This day wasn't one of your ordinary days, it was one of those days when you wake up and just know things are going to be different. This was one of those days. It was for a good reason, it was my sister's wedding. I had a date for the wedding, she was my best friend of 6 years and I was in love with her, but I had no idea how she felt about me. I was so nervous, I was so proud of my sister for finding the one, but I was nervous as to what would happen between Carissa and myself. It is 3 AM and I have to pick Carissa up at 4 pm, I can't sleep and my nerves are getting the better of me. By 5 AM I'm up and out getting coffee. By 10 AM I'm trying to get dressed for the wedding but I can't choose which suit I want to wear. I have 5 suits, a black, white, light blue, grey and navy. I try on all 5 and I end up going with the cliché black, by 11 AM I am on my couch in my suit waiting for 3 to come around and be able to pick her up. By 2:30 I'm in my car driving around town trying to get to her house. Finally I make it to her home and I am so nervous that I trip a couple times getting to the door. I knock a couple times and she opens the door and my heart skips a beat. She's absolutely beautiful, no one else could match her beauty in my eyes. She wore a red dress, and she looked stunning. I was at a loss for words but I found the courage to call her beautiful and walk her to the car door. While driving to the wedding, I keep staring at her and she notices,
"Tom, why are you staring at me?"
"You're so beautiful, how could I not? Just look at you"
"Well you look handsome Tom, and thank you, I really didn't think I looked the greatest to be honest."
"You always look beautiful in my eyes."
At this moment I received the biggest hug I have ever received in my life from her. It was such a warm embrace and I can tell I made her happy with the words I said.
"Thank you Tom, you're the sweetest guy I know, never change."
We finally arrive to the wedding, and it was nothing like I expected, my sister always wanted a small wedding but this was insanely huge. It was in a huge hall with hundreds and hundreds of people. It was extravagant. Butlers, family, friends, it was like a palace party, something kind of like the movie The Great Gatsby. Carissa and I sit down together and the first thing she tells me is that we're going to be dancing together tonight. And I smile so brightly that she knows I am happy to hear that.
"I'm in love with you." I said.
"Tom, what?"
"I'm in love with you, you're everything I dream about."
"Tom, I don't know what to say."
"Don't say anything, we can talk after."
But during dinner there was a stunning brunette looking my way the entire time, I later found out her name was Victoria. Right after dinner she signalled for me to meet her in a other room and I did. We started to talk and I found out she was a brilliant woman, she had a PhD and that she was a friend of the groom's. One thing led to another and we started to kiss, and it was incredible. I started to hear a voice in the background and it was Carissa. She was crying and stormed off. I ran after her but I lost her. I found out she went home so I drove to her house and waited on her front steps until she came home. A cab pulled up to her door and she came out crying. I stood up and walked to her but she didn't want to see me.
"I can't believe you Tom."
"What can't you believe?"
"You told me you loved me and I found you kissing another girl."
"Why does that bother you? You don't share the same feelings as me."
"Tom, I love you. I have for so long and I really don't know what to do."
"You love me?"
"Well I did, and hearing you did made me want to tell you, but when I wanted to, you ran off with some other girl."
"Carissa just listen, she meant nothing."
"How do you expect me to believe that? How do I know you won't just run off again when we're together? You're not who I thought you were Tom, I think you should leave."
"Carissa, wait."
"What?"
"I'm sorry, and I love you."
"Maybe if you showed it, things would have been different. Bye Tom."
She closed the door behind her and I had no idea what to do. So I decided to just drive home. I lied on my couch all day and night for the next 3 days and finally I came up with an idea, I got into my car and bought her roses and chocolates because I knew they were her favourites, and once I got to her door, she opened the door, took them and closed the door in my face. I tried many more things over the next 2 months, like writing her a letter apologizing, and even asking her to dinner to talk it over, but she barely replied and when she did, she'd yell at me for being a jerk. It took months before she was willing to speak to me, and once we did, she told me she had to move on from me and walked away. I lost myself, and I lost what love was, it took me a long time to find love again.
