When I woke up, I heard the clicking of the keyboard. As I was on the other side of the desk, I couldn't see who it was, I figured it was Mannie and i shut my eyes. Wait! I thought jolting up. I looked next to me, Mannie was still there, sleeping..... I poked mt head up on my side of the desk, next to the computer screen. I gasped, "Dad" I said wairily wondering if I should wake Mannie up and run....... I decided to stay. "You know I don't like those touristy places, like Orlando." he said nonchalantly, not looking away from the computer screen. I rested my chin on the desk. "When did you figure it out?" I whispered closing my eyes, expecting an explosion of indescribeable words. "He came and talked to me while you were at work." I sat, mouth wide open. "Mannie talked to you?!" I exclaimed. "Yupppp, hes and honorable man." he said looking me in the eyes for the first time in our conversation. I smiled. "Do you love him?" my father asked blankly. I switched from one knee to the other, uncomfortably trying to acoid having this discussion with him. I made "squinty face" like I always had in uncomrfotable situations. It wasn't that I didn't love Mannie, it was just that I hated and dreaded these deep, private talks with my family. But I couldn't avoid it any longer. I sat up straight and answered the question. "Yes, always have.........always will." I smiled. "Alright then!" he yelled slapping his hand down on the desk. "Go child!' he said in his best "wise-man" voice. "Fly to your heartttt!" he sang, goofily quoting one of my favorite Disney songs. I laughed and rolled on the ground until my sides hurt. I saw Mannie's body shake with laughter and he rolled over, smiling his goofiest smile at me. He crawled over to where I was kneeling and wrapped his arm around my waist. "Now" my father commanded in his "grown-up" voice getting our direct attention. " You must talk to the woman of the house. She will be home by dinnertime. Sit her down and talk to her like the adults YOU ARE!" he bellowed. "Yes sir" Mannie said, saluting my father. They both laughed (I don't think they understood the seriousness of the situation. "And take that guitar with you, you'll put it to better use then I did." he laughed. We walked out of the office, dragging out "campsite" and Mannie's new guitar behind us. We walked into my room and folded up the comforters and put the pillows back on my bed without saying one word because our smiles were speaking for us. I couldn't keep my composure any longer. "Mannie!" I squealed jumping on him and wrapping my legs around his waist. "We did it" It's all working out!" He laughed spinning me around and then gently setting me down on the floor. "Not quite. but lets not jinx it" he said calmly, trying to hide how giddy he actually was. "Mannie, I know you, I know you're excited. Smile a little! Come onnn!" I joked. He threw himself on the floor next to me. He buried his face in my shoulder and wrapped his arms around my waist. "What are you doing?" I giggled. "I don't want you to see me cry again." he said, his voice muffled by my shirt. "Why are you crying?" I asked concered. "Cause I'm happy!" he said lifting his head up and smiling at me. I pressed my hand against his cheek. "I love seeing you cry, It shows me that you care." I smiled and we dabbled around in my room before we started on dinner.
