“I'll just walk.” “Come on, you're almost late. By the time you get there-” “I'll run then.” “You'll be late anyways.” “Oh come on, Ty. I can't stand motorcycles-” “I guess you'll have to stand them this one time then.” He said, before picking me up and putting me in front of him on the bike. “Look, this way, you can see everything. You'll be fine. Relax.” He started the motorcycle.
It wasn't that bad, to tell you the truth. It was just like sitting in a convertible. When we got to school, though. That was kinda scary. In a flash, Arlen was beside the motorcycle, yelling at Ty. “Ty. Ty...Ty help me off.” I said, turning around to poke Ty. Ty looked down at me and picked me up again, placing me on the ground next to Arlen. “Hey-” “Don't you 'Hey' me! What were you doing sitting next to Ty Larsen on a motorcycle?!” He hollered. I stepped closer to him. “Listen here, Arlen. Yesterday, I took a bullet for you. Then, you went to football practice and didn't give me a ride home. And it started to rain. So Ty came and tried to give me a ride home-” “So you slept with him?” “NO!” “So why are you wearing his sweats?” “Because it was raining and my clothes were soaked through, you idiot!” Silence in the entire parking lot. I turned on and my heel and walked towards the school. As I passed by everyone, whispers chased after me.
“...look it's the girl that slept with Ty!”
“...she's such a skank, ohemgee!”
“...cheated on Arlen-”
The last one had me mad. I turned around. “Listen here, dipstick. I don't date Arlen. He's my friend and only my friend. And Ty is a friend too, understand? What the hell are you, anyways? A freshman or something?” The girl shook her head no. “I'm a Sophomore.” I stepped closer. “And I'm a senior. Treat your elders with respect, will ya?” I whirled around and smashed into someone. Yet again. And once again, it was- “Hey, Aspen. Are you okay?” From behind me, the sophomores were whispering and giggling. “...look it's Ty!” I shook my head. “Just frickin' sick, no thanks to Arlen. Worst friend in the world.” I muttered, shaking my head. “Hey, thanks for giving me clothes, Ty.” He smiled softly, “No problem, Aspie.” “Don't call me that. I need to get to homeroom, see you in P.E?”
The day was pretty lame- well, except for in P.E when Ty picked me for his soccer team and the girls started to giggle and Arlen looked like he was about to blow a fuse. And they continued to giggle when I fell and scraped my knee and Ty came to help me get a band-aid on it. Girls are such dramatic gossipers. He's just a friend, for God's sakes. Besides, Arlen was there too. It was nothing.
Lunch kinda sucked too. I always eat alone, outside, mostly because my friend, Arlen, always ate with his 'friends'. I sat at my table, biting at my apple. There were, again, clouds in the sky, gloomily hovering over me. I muttered a curse. Nothing went really well in my life, well, since I got the news that my grandmother is coming from Vietnam. I bit my laugh to hold in a laugh. It's not gonna rain- which was why, to this day, I'm not going to be saying things like that. I was still in Ty's sweats, but I was still pretty cold. I shook my head. And then-
Bang! Crack! Pttt-pttt.
Rain started falling from the sky, ginormous drops, of what my Grandmother calls God's tears, falling onto my head. I was already sick. I definitely wasn't going to catch pneumonia. I got up, grabbing my bags and rain inside. Why was it that today I decided to eat all the way out here? I rain up the hill and towards the cafeteria doors. I felt a migraine coming on. And then the unspeakable happened. As I was nearing the doors, I saw someone reach over and lock it- one of the sophomore girls from before.
