CHAPTER 15:

“Dance with me.” Ordered Orlando as soon as the waltz started to play.

He obviously didn’t give her time to protest, since he pulled her hand to the middle of the dance floor and with one arm about her back pushed her forward so that his chest was only inches away from hers and his second hand was entwined around hers.

“Orlando!” she exclaimed heaving a shaky sigh before continuing “I don’t dance.”

“Of course you do!” he insisted starting to sway her around the dance floor.

“No! I really don’t.. can’t..” she replied quietly.

“There! You’re doing spectacular!” he said looking down at her with as much confidence in his eyes as there was encouragement.

This man really was restless, he didn’t like being refused nor fiddled around with.

She looked away from his eyes feeling the cold breeze of winter in the room disappear and heat start rising in between.

It barely took a minute before moisture was forming on her forehead from his flagrantly thirsty looks determined to have her pulpy and blooming with ambrosia.

He certainly won the first round in that and he was praising himself with his devilishly charming smiles.

She wanted to win as well, she couldn’t settle for his out competition. As he leaned in to kiss her she seized her chance and whispered calmly “No, no. Only in the presence of my father.” Then she twisted her face down so he won’t be able to kiss her. She heard him groan with such disappointment and that groan that meant her win was like music to her ears and she tried not be manifest in her downright felicity for winning when she gave him half a coy, zesty smile. He couldn’t get himself to give her a smile in return, he was still too crestfallen but in a matter of seconds was looking over her shoulder with unutterable glee and looking back at her said “Your father just returned.”

He leaned down and before she knew it, was kissing her but to her surprise gently and with such emotion that made her toes curl in her slippers.

God! The things this man was capable of doing to her with a single kiss.

She stopped moving, felt paralytic for seconds before she finally was able to think of reality. They were in a room filled with all kinds of people who she have never encountered before, kissing deeply.

She slipped a hand between their faces and gasped for a long breath before saying “You made your point.”

He kissed the palm of her hand and said “Good then.”

She avoided the suspicious eyes of the awed crowd and continued to dance inexpertly to Orlando’s lead before she heard him say “You didn’t tell me your father was married?”

She felt nailed to the ground before she gasped out “What?!” and as she turned to face her father, heard Orlando continue “And to the nice lady who helped you get dressed...”

CHAPTER 16:

Pilar and her father!

MARRIED!!

When? How? Why? Where?

She could hear her heart pound in her ear and still she stared at the odd couple greeting people at the gates of the large room.

“ They look happy.” Said Orlando putting his hand on her shoulder.

“ Pa.. Papa? Pilar?” she muttered languidly and then as she saw her father’s arm around Pilar’s shoulders, she slightly hoped they would just be friends, or close friends who made the grand entry together as the host and hostess of Esmeralda’s welcoming party. Oh! Who was she kidding?! They really were married and every one seemed to know except for the daughter of the groom – Esmeralda –.
