She turned on her heel and ran out the room. She flung open the basement door and slowly and soundlessly closed it behind her. She cautiously stepped down the steps as she felt the wall for a light switch.
A muffled "...29...30...Ready or not, here I come!" and footsteps sounded above as May flipped the light switch.
Dust covered to floor except for a path caused by her mother that lead to the washer and dryer, the only reason anyone even came down here. A single, bare bulb hung in the middle of the small room. She looked closer for a hiding space and saw a crate in a dim corner, wedged behind the dryer and the wall. She rushed to it and climbed in as she heard Carrie's footsteps pass right pass the door, pause, and go on.
