A promise worth keeping

You promised

A promised so deep and sincere and cannot be broken

A promise out of regrets and secrets

it cannot be spoken.

But I remember word by word

No one knew but I heard

It was a promise just for me

To make me feel like a person I didn't fully see

You promised to keep me safe

That promise you kept

But physically I was weak when names were called

So I wept

Cried for all the pain

Cried because I thought the sorrow would go away

Then you came and I was never the same

I knew that I was special

I knew I was brave

I knew I was smart

I knew I could be saved

You promised to protect me but I made a promise of my own

A promise that I know but it's not unknown

You can push me down but I'll just keep rising

Call me names and think it's emphasizing

But no it's not because the names are wrong

Keep on thinking what you want

Think what you pleased

I made the promise and the promise is me

No matter what you say I'll keep getting stronger

And that's a promise
