DARKNESS AND SILENCE WAS ALL THAT ZERO WAS ACCUSTOMED TO OVER TIME, IT WAS ALL THE BOY had known in his short life so far. . . or what he remembered about it atleast. The blonde had not felt the sun beaming down on his skin, he never felt the warm July wind ruffling through his hair. No all Zero knew was darkness, the cold and silence

The Upside Down was what it was called, or so they told him when he managed to get there for the first time at the age of seven. The people who said they saved him drilled it into his brain the moment he opened his brown eyes to see the fluroscent light beam down on him and told him they wanted him to get there with his mind.

At the time the boy didn't understand what the tests were for, nor what everything was that they tested on him did. But miraculous he survived and it changed him forever. At the age of seven instead of being welcomed by the faded grey walls of his confinment the boy found himself in unfamilair surroundings for the first time.

The sky was a omnious midnight blue, a night that lasted forever he would find out later. The air was cold and it crawled over his skin like needles everytime he woke up there. But it looked the same as his home, except for the eerie feeling looming around the place.

But the first time he met the demogorgon was much later to his somewhat luck. At the age of ten he would have a run in with a creature crawling for blood. He had screamed so loud, his voice remained hoarse for weeks and his eyes always darted nervously around the room, expecting for it to appear from the shadows, but what he didn't know-what he wasn't told was that while he could see inside the Upside Down, wander even only his mind traveled there.

In a calm like state, Zero could project himself into the other dimension, what brought the scientist at Hawkins Lab a lot of joy. They trained the boy, to know his surroundings, to know the creatures lurking in the dark, to know the Upside Down inside out.

So Zero learned and fought with powers he could not control. He learned to push his fears aside when he came into contact with the Demogorgon, he learned to go on because the people at Hawkins Lab didn't like it when he failed. He fought to keep his breathing steady everytime he opened his eyes and was met with the omnious blue sky. He fought to please the scientist urging him to take that one extra step further in the unknown. And that wish for him to go the extra mile brought him into contact with a boy lost and alone. Shivering and quivering as he hid from his demons.

Zero had been that boy once in his life and he remembered how every mistake would equal punishment. How he had to continue without complainments and that was how instead of running away from the danger like he would normally do so he could wake up on his cot, shivering and quivering himself as he stared into the darkness of his room he chose to stay and help the young child.

The day het met the boy softly singing should I Stay or Should I Go Zero decided that he was not running anymore. So instead of avoiding the creature lurking around close to the boy he ran towards him. Shouting and pleading for him to run.

Zero would later learn his name to be Will Byers and his mission to get back to his home. Zero didn't know what home meant but nodded nontheless. So they walked side by side through the everlasting fog, hoping that today was not the day for Will to meet his end.

But as the two boys sat huddled together in a small handmade structure Will refered to as Castle Byers everything changed. Some for the good and some for the worse.

Will was shivering as he had his own arms wrapped around himself to gain some warmth but it never worked. His lips turned blue and his face looked solemn and sunken as he stared straight ahead. The blonde boy he met sat silently beside him, looking almost calm as he stared at Will. He could not provide the warmth Will needed so desperatly.

And then something happened, something Zero had never witnessed before. A girl, young and small and familiar stood in front of Will her shaven head a prominent feature. But as she talked to the younger boy Zero protected for so long it sounded like she was a million miles away in his ears. But Will, he understood everything perfectly clear as he spoke with some struggle. Zero did hear Will as he spoke and his words formed a knot in his stomach.

"Hurry."

And then everything took a turn for the worse as before Zero could shout and tell the Byers' boy to run, the demogorgan crashed right through the wooden structure with a loud and ear piercing screech.

Everything that happened after that was a blur for Zero as the blonde pulled the terrified boy with him as fast as he could. Running through trees and bushes while the demogorgan stalked after them. Coming upon a building, Zero pushed the Byers' boy towards it while he stood his ground, ready to distract the creature that was getting closer any second.

"What about you?!" Will had shouted with wide eyes, his lip quivering as Zero glanced over his shoulder with a small smile.

"I protect." The words passed his lips in a quite whisper but Will heard nontheless.

"No! My mum, she's coming to get me, you have to come with me please!" Will desperatly clung to the older boy's sleeve.

"Run." Zero's voice was serious and before Will could protest more and beg the blonde to come with him, Zero dashed forward and towards the approaching Demogorgan, shouting one last time. "Run!"

And so Will Byers ran, as fast as his feet could carry him as he dissapeared in the building to hide. His vision blurry from the tears that gathered as he looked back over his shoulder to see Zero run away with the Demogorgan chasing him. And then Will tripped and his eyes closed as darkness surrounded him and his mind went numb.

Not long after Jim Hopper and Joyce Byers rescued the young Byers' boy and brought him back home.

And while Will Byers opened his eyes and was greeted by the kind faces of his friends and family surrounded by bright light, Zero opened his eyes to the darkness of his closed off confinment all alone.

And what Zero believed would have been the last he saw of Will Byers was only the beginning as something much more sinister came crawling out of the shadows to haunt Hawkins, Indiana and possibly the world.
