Jack rushes out of the house, a travel mug in one hand and his briefcase in the other. Mark filled the cups this morning, so it's full of green tea, flavored with a spoon of cinnamon and a few drops of lemon juice.
Jack puts his things in the driver's seat, returning to the house. As soon as he opens the door, he's hit again with the chaos of family life. Mark is in a suit, kneeled on the floor to button their son's shirt. Their daughter is struggling with her jacket, all while cooing at their golden retriever.
Jack smiles softly, bending down to help their daughter. He eases her arms through the sleeves, zipping it up when it is on properly.
"Chica wants to come!" their daughter insists, point to the dog. Chica wages her tail happily, pushing her head underneath Jack's hand so he will stroke her.
"No, school isn't for puppies," Jack reminds her, petting Chica's soft head.
Mark stands when their son is finally dressed, grabbing his own travel mug from the counter and his satchel. Jack rounds up the kids, herding them out the door. Mark follows, giving Chica a few pats before saying goodbye.
Out at the car, Jack takes their daughter to the far side, lifting her into her booster seat. He buckles her as Mark opens the door for their son, allowing him to climb into his own booster seat.
"Hold this for me?" Mark asks their son, offering him the mug. The boy gladly takes it, holding it firmly as Mark slides his satchel near his swinging legs. Mark buckles him, picking up his bag and forgetting the tea in his son's hands, closing the door and getting into the passenger seat.
The drive to the school is quick, as they specifically bought a house with a short commute. They arrive in the parking lot in no time, jumping out again to unbuckle their kids.
When Mark opens the door, their son has already forgotten about the travel mug, resting it against the door without a thought. The opening takes the support away, and he losses hold of the cup. It falls to the ground, crashing onto the blacktop. The lid pops open, slipping green tea all over.
"Oh! Fuck!" Mark curses without thinking, jumping back to keep from staining his suit.
"Daddy!" their daughter scolds at the fowl language, looking over at the commotion as Jack unbuckles her.
"I'm sorry, Daddy," the little boy apologize, clearly ashamed and getting to tears.
"It's okay, baby," Mark coos, picking up the empty cup and lid. "It was an accident. No harm done."
The boy nods, a bit sad. Mark gives him a kiss on the forehead, unbuckling his seatbelt and putting him on the ground. Their son cheers up a bit, smiling lightly.
"Have a good day at school," Mark calls as their two children walk towards the building, looking around for cars just like they told them.
Mark returns to the passenger seat, dropping the wet mug into the cup holder. Jack slides in as well, putting the car into drive to get out of the parking lot.
"I'm not going to be able to survive without some caffeine," Mark mentions, already sipping Jack's drink.
Jack rolls his eyes before an idea pops into his head. "Do you remember the university cafe where we meet?"
"Of course," Mark replies.
"Think it's still open?"
"I'd say yes," Mark smiles.
"Why don't we stop by there?" Jack offers. "For old time's sake."
"I'd love to," Mark grins, leaning over to press a quick kiss against his husband's cheek.
Jack smiles, stopping at a stop sign at an empty intersection. He turns to his husband, pressing their lips together for a long, sweet kiss. Mark's mouth taste like green tea, and Jack absolutely cannot get enough of it.
"Can't believe you got me to like tea," Jack mutters, turning back to the road.
"Can't believe you got me to marry you," Mark teases.
