Party Ruined, Perhaps.

((recap))

"Arabella. It is you."

"No it's not." I quickly respond, catching the attention of Jaxon. His mother doesn't bother keeping the argument up once he loses interest, assuming that she's won, and she starts talking to her husband and some other family members sitting beside them.

"Who the fuck are you?" Jax growls, wrapping his hand around my thigh, skin on skin, due to the slit in the side and me crossing my legs.

"Arabella's man."

And all hell broke loose.

((end of recap))

Jaxon stood almost immediately. I stood with him, panic arising in my system. Mrs. and Mr. Matthews stand as well, Mr. Matthews' face hard and angry, and for a minute I'm scared. I start thinking about how many people are watching and how many must be judging.

Thinking of how this is probably ruining the entire party, I step in between Jaxon and Drake. Drake smirks at me and then locks eyes with Jaxon, who grabs my waist and pulls me into him. Jaxon growls, and moves closer, pulling me behind him.

In a desperate attempt to get things to settle down quickly, I turn toward Jaxon and push on his chest, even though he doesn't budge. His eyes are narrowed in on Drake, and I can already feel the tension, thick enough for a knife to cut through.

"Jaxon, stop. Not here, not now. Please." I whisper, breaking my neck to look up at Jaxon. Drake lets out a little chuckle from behind me, and I can already feel my hatred for him growing.

"Yeah, not like we can't finish this at school, right? In fact, I'm pretty sure I have a class with little Bella, here."

I spin around and glare at him, mentally cursing him for opening his stupid mouth. He just wants to start something, that he should be scared of finishing. I already know Jax would win in a fight, no question about it.

"If you don't shut your-"

"Jaxon!" I cut him off, "Please!"

I take this moment to put my hands on his cheeks, ignoring the embarrassed blush creeping up my neck because I know people are watching and staring at us and I consider this an intimate moment, something private.

Jaxon lowers his eyes to mine, softening momentarily, long enough for him to sigh and nod. I smile and turn back to Drake, who looks disappointed and pissed off at the same time. He crosses his arms over his chest and stares at me without emotion.

"Please leave, Drake. I don't want to ruin this party."

He scoffs, looking around at all of the guests, "Whatever. See you at school, princess." He winks and then saunters off, making Jaxon subconsciously wrap his arm and hand around my waist firmly.

"Let's continue, please. I am so sorry for the interruption." I to Mr. and Mrs. Matthews, nervously. Mrs. Matthews smiles lightly at me, softening her gaze, which I wasn't aware was possible to soften any more so.

We all sit down, and the live music starts up again. Some nosy guests whisper behind their hands and send dirty looks while others spare us the occasional, curious, glance. I am quiet for most of the time until we near the end of the night, after multiple dances and toasts.

Sitting silently beside Jaxon while his family engages in conversation, my attention is brought to the rest of them when my name is mentioned from his father, Mr. Matthews' mouth. I straighten my spine and widen my eyes, giving him my full attention.

"Arabella, so you go to school with our son?"

I nod, smiling easily, "Yes sir."

He nods, still no emotion on his face as he stares deeply into my eyes. I get a little uneasy, damping my lips with my tongue and breaking eye contact for a second before looking back into his eyes, respectfully.

"And what grade are you in?" He adds, raising his eyebrows slightly. The rest of the family goes quiet, ending their conversations to listen in, as well.

"I am a senior, but I skipped a grade, sir." I answer, nibbling a little on the inside of my cheek. Jaxon slips his hand over my knee, just for comfort. I relax a little as he begins to rub his thumb on my kneecap.

Mr. Matthews hums sarcastically, tilting his head while doing so. He keeps his eyes on me, and I start to wonder if he has blinked in the time that we have been talking, which feels like forever. I take a gulp as he continues to question me.

"So how old are you?" He asks, clasping his hands over the table, and leaning forward slightly. Mrs. Matthews turns to give him an odd look, squinting her eyes a bit, but he pays her no attention and keeps his attention on me, so I try and answer quickly.

"I am seventeen." I say quietly, sort of ashamed. Jaxon for whatever reason is in my grade and he is certainly not my age, and I do not know how his parents will react when they find out, if they do not know already, that I am 5 years younger than Jaxon.

"I see." He says curtly, turning toward Jaxon to give him a look. I turn and look too, to make sure Jaxon isn't angry at me for telling them the truth, because I do not know what he has said to them or if he has lied to them and told them I am a different age.

I just don't want to lie to his parents, especially if I plan on staying with Jaxon for as long as I can. I turn back to Mr. Matthews as he starts to hum.

"So do you enjoy dating a child, son?"
