  "What's this?"
  ‎
‎"It's a letter, sir." Masayoshi glanced at Rachel who shifted her gaze elsewhere. "Sorry, sir." She murmured, fidgeting with the collar of her turtleneck. They were seated in the office of the shadow lord, discussing over a rather serious matter.
  ‎
‎Masayoshi's gloved fingers tugged at the thin and red ribbon that helped seal the letter, before unfolding the flap and carefully took out the content. He absentmindedly tossed the shell of the letter aside, focusing on the piece of paper itself. Seeing the cursive and neat handwriting, the king had two guesses.
  ‎
One, it could be from Slenderman, whom the lord could already guess what the poor, overworked king of the forest needs or two, it's from them.
  ‎
‎Seeing the handwriting was golden instead of Slenderman's black writing, Masayoshi sighed.
  ‎
  ‎He knew it.
  ‎
  ‎Dear Masayoshi,

‎It has been a week since we have sent you the invitation to visit the Council. We'd like to know your progress on finding a plus one, as those humans would call it. Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if you weren't able to manage one. I mean, have you seen yourself?

‎Masayoshi chewed on his bottom lip, eyes narrowed behind his mask. Just get on with it, he mentally urged.
  ‎
‎The Council and I would love to see her, whoever she may be. There had been complications, so the you have only a week to get yourself a date. Do not wiggle yourself out of this, we truly have other issues to deal with. Other than your lack of attractiveness, of course.
  ‎
  ‎We will see you then.
  ‎
‎He obviously had too much fun with this. Masayoshi sighed and folded the letter neatly, although his subconscious tugged at his mind to just burn the piece.
  ‎
  ‎"Are you okay, sir?"

‎Realising his loyal second-in-command was present and witnessed his moment of reverie, the shadow lord nodded. "Peachy." He murmured and looked up from his desk.

"I believe Eyeball Andy is in the vicinity, you may want to see him." From the look on her face, Masayoshi could tell that she obviously didn't want to. But Rachel nodded anyway, turning on her heels and left the large office.
  ‎
Masayoshi held his face in his hands, smoothing over the smooth surface of his mask. What am I going to do now? He asked himself and closed his eyes.
  ‎
‎Unbeknownst to him, a certain someone was listening to his silent cry for help.
  ‎

—————  ‎

  ‎"Hurry, hurry!"
  ‎
  ‎"Where are we even going?"
  ‎
‎"Blagdan's got news and for once, I think it's interesting!"
  ‎
‎The shadows bounced off the walls, slipping under a door and resurfaced on the other side. They saw that the other shadows were already in the cellar, drinking on tea and wine. For those who were still young, feasted on apple juice and grapes.
  ‎
‎"Is everyone here?" A voice boomed over the others and their blabbers, and every one of the shadows looked over to see the largest shadow of them all.

All of them began to murmur about the authority in his voice, when Blagdan boomed again. "I said, is everyone here?"
  ‎
‎They all nodded. Blagdan nodded, satisfied and hummed. "I will get straight to the point. I assume you all have heard about Master's current dilemma?" Everyone nodded again. "What do you propose?" A shadow asked.
  ‎
  ‎The lead shadow smirked.
  ‎
‎"Well, Yin, I suggest we go and get a date for our Master."
  ‎
‎The shadows erupt into a cheer of undoubted approval, they would do anything for their lord.
  ‎
‎"What are the qualifications?" asked another shadow. "Well, of course beautiful, sweet, kindhearted, and interesting enough for Master to not kill her."
  ‎
‎Blagdan's answer made the other shadows nod and began to discuss among each other. They've been to many places and they're basically everywhere! Surely there's oughta be someone perfect enough for their master to bring!
  ‎
‎"But Blag, Lord Masayoshi haven't killed any girls that doesn't interest him. That's Kagekao's way of killing." A small shadow piped up, and Blagdan looked over to see that it came from a bunny shadow. He sighed, "Right, right. Just... let us start the search for the one!"
  ‎
  ‎"Whoo!"
  ‎
‎Mad cackles shared throughout the room before every shadow slipped out of the cellar to find the girl fit for their Master. Only one shadow remained, surrounded by empty cups and glasses by the others.
  ‎
  ‎"But wait, what about Elaine?"
