Bella POV

''Mhm," I moaned, chewing the deliciously soft and moist hunk of steak in my mouth. "You were right Kate, this is so good."

Kate smirked and sliced into her own cut of filet mignon before taking a sip of her wine. "I told you it was good," she said after swallowing, "You should try the wine, it complements this meal perfectly. I have excellent taste."

"Of course you do," I replied, placing down my fork and grasping the stem of my wine glass. Lifting the glass to my lips, I eyed Kate over the rim of my glass. "I am your mate after all," I whispered over the rim, locking eyes with Kate. She visibly swallowed, and I internally smiled in victory as I gulped down the sweet and slightly bitter wine. "You're right," I said placing down the wine, "This wine and filet mignon do go well together. Who knew a vampire could judge human food so well?"

The blonde gave a slight shake of her head and smiled at me. "Yeah, who knew?" She smirked, "Though I can't be a judge of how well they cooked it, I prefer my meat... rare..."

I chose to ignore her comment and focused back on my meal of filet mignon and steamed vegetables in béarnaise sauce. I had fallen asleep on the drive to California last night and didn't wake up until this morning in the bed and breakfast Kate mentioned. Of course Kate was in bed holding me and I was wearing significantly less clothing, but I was partially expecting that.

We spent the day touring wineries in the area, sampling the wine and just being together. The funny part was that I've spent more time alone with Kate the past two days than I have with Edward over the entirety of our relationship. It wasn't just the quantity time alone that seemed to make the time spent with Kate more real, but the quality of the time. We talked, and had actual conversations, more than Edward and I ever did.

It was late by the time we finished dinner and got back to the B&B. "So," I started, "What are we doing tomorrow? And how are we keeping Alice from seeing this?"

"Just now put that together did you?" Kate chuckled, splayed out on the bed. "You haven't been making many choices the past two days, and, like with Edward, I've been making surface choices that interfere with her visions while keeping the real choices underneath them."

"What if I just make random choices to try and confuse her?" I asked, "They might disguise any real choice I might make."

"Seems like you're pretty good at avoiding the midget fortune teller as well," Kate snickered, beckoning me to join her on the bed.

I walked over and motioned her to scoot over just a tad. "Don't get any ideas," I warned her. "Just because I was asleep last night, doesn't mean you can pull the same trick with me tonight."

"I don't know what you're talking about," Kate protested.

"So I didn't imagine waking up in my underwear with you curled up against my back and your hands on my chest?"

"You've got a pretty good imagination. I think I want in on that imagination," she finished with a wink.

I rolled my eyes and settled onto the bed after replacing my pants with some basketball shorts I picked up at the store yesterday. "So," I started once I laid down, "We talked a lot today about my life and the future, but can I hear about your life? As a vampire and a human if you can remember."

Kate grew quiet for a moment, and turned on her back to look at the ceiling. "I don't remember much about my human life," Kate started, "Not specific events or anything like that. Tanya's never too specific when people ask her how old we all are, only tells them that we're over a thousand years old." I choose to remain silent at that, my eyes widened though.
