This is the dance I had been waiting for.
The dance that I was supposed to get up the courage to ask my crush to dance at.
The dance that was supposed to change the course of my life for good.
Only, none of that stuff actually happens when it's supposed to. So, here I am sitting alone outside of the gym on a wooden bench. It is pouring down the rain, but it doesn't matter. My hair is soaked, and I am starting to cough. Still doesn't matter. I am alone, alone, alone. I will always be alone. I have been sitting here crying since the rejection. People can be so cruel... I can still see the look on his face when I asked him. The look on his friend's faces. How embarrassing.
"Are you okay?" I hear him before I see him. Standing there under the streetlamp looking down at me is Chad. No, that can't be right. Layne. No...
"I am fine." Charles. I'm sure that is his name.
"I'm Kurt, from literature class... well I skip so much you probably don't remember me..." He sits beside me. He is attractive, in a rugged hot sort of way. Very attractive. He's looking at me and his eyes are shining in the streetlight. I stop crying. It's no fair, how he can just look at me like this. A mess.
"I remember you." I tell him. "Thanks for checking on me, I am fine though. Don't let me ruin your night..."
"You don't look fine... I mean..." He starts to say, then looks away. "Your dress is pretty." He says.
"Thank you... really, don't let me ruin your night..." I start to say. He is gorgeous. And shy. Oh my gosh...
"No, I was in detention until just now." He chuckles. "Believe me this is the highlight of my evening."
I feel myself blushing. How come I never talked to him before?
"Here, take my sweater, you're soaked..." He starts to offer me his shirt and I'm still blushing. I can't take it, I'd get it soaked. I tell him this. Multiple times. He looks hurt. I take it. It's warm. I don't deserve it.
"Let's go over by the ramp so we can talk someplace where it's not raining... if you want..." He tells me. I agree, and we walk over to the ramp. At first I'm hesitant to talk to him but he continuously lets me know it's okay and so I tell him. Everything.
"Wow that guy is an ass..." He says when I'm finished. I giggle. "I'm serious. He doesn't deserve you." He tells me.
I must've been staring at him for awhile without realizing it because he goes "What?" and smiles.
"You're just... so freaking cute..." I tell him. I feel my heart flutter.
"You think I'm cute?" He asks me, grinning. "Thank you." He says. I am smiling as he puts his arm around me.
"I'm soaked!" I yell at him. He doesn't seem to care.
"My friend needs a hug, she's getting a hug." He says to me. I rest my head against his chest. He lifts my head up and kisses me softly. We are smiling at each other. I don't want this night to end. Then Cassie comes around the corner and she is yelling my name.
"Oh! The dance!" I tell Kurt.
"Let's go, I can sneak in" he smirks at me.
When I catch up to Cassie she says she was looking for me because she was worried. We all go inside the dance and Kurt had indeed snuck in. We dance under the strobe lights and I feel my old crush watching us. I couldn't care less about him. With Kurt by my side I could take on the world.
