"Come on let's go outside," said my best friend, Leona. "Why don't you ever go outside Lexes?"
"My mom says I can't, my mom said if it's winter I can't go outside if I'm not with her, and I can't go out long or I'll get sick," I said.
Leona sighed, "OK see you later then."
"Bye," I said.
When I got home from school with my little sisters, Lila and Margo, I said, "Mom why can't I go outside and play in the snow without you? All the other kids get to go outside."
My mom said, "You know how easy you get sick."
I said, "But Mom why can't I go outside for a little while? Alone? Can't I just go once?"
"We can not go outside, Du Leona," said Margo.
" Margo go start on your homework. Listen to me Lexes, you are only twelve you will get sick if you go outside for long," said mom.
I went up stairs and began my homework. Once I said goodnight to mom and read a story to my two little sisters, I got ready for bed. I layed there in silence, hoping the rest of the house would be fast asleep. I got up slowly and quietly after a long silence. I thought to myself, "Mom must be asleep." I tiptoed towards the door making little to no noise, taking subtle steps to avoid the old creaky areas of the floor. When I was at the door I peeked my head out of my bedroom door and noticed all the lights were off. The house was so silent I was sure not even a mouse was stirring. Finally after walking for what felt like hours I went outside. I marvelled at the pure snow glistening all around me. I had never seen something so beautiful. I walked to the nearest snow a few feet away that had just fallen from the jet black sky, and grabbed as big as a handful I could manage to get. The snow made me shiver from the cool temperature, it was cooler than ice. As it fell from my hand it looked as though a sparkle or glitter from the snow had come out of my hand.
"Lexes!" shouted someone from behind me I recognized the voice as mom, she continued, "What did I tell you about going outside? You get inside now!"
I followed her into the doors of our house, the family room lights were now on. Margo and Lila were nowhere to be found, they must have still been in their beds. Mom slid into the other room going after the thermometer. She was back in an instance. "She said I need to check your temperature to make sure you are not coming down with anything, you know that I do not want you to get sick."
She pulled the thermometer out of my ear and said, "You are at 100 degrees. Lexes I know how much you want to go outside, but you need to listen to me you can't go out there during winter you will get sick. Now that you are sick you will have to stay home in order to get better."
I went up to my room and thought I don't understand why I can't go outside.
"Mom?" a soft voice asked coming from my younger siblings room.
I walked into their room and saw Lila (My youngest sister sitting up in her bed) "It is all right I said, just getting a few things organized."
"OK," She said rubbing her eyes.
I kissed her on the cheek and said goodnight after she had laid down to go back to sleep. Lila is the youngest of my Mom's family, she is five right now. She is the sweetest and quietest of everyone in our family.
After thinking about the things that had happened outside I feel into a deep sleep without knowing it. I woke to the sun beaming into my window there was a note on my headboard that read,
Dear Lexes,
I left for work, the kids came with me to school. Be careful I don't want you to get hurt. I'm not mad at you for last night I'm just worried about you. I love you.
