Chapter 5

Kendall

I told Adam everything and told him not to let anyone know. Before Adam drove away, he put a new iPhone into my hand. "Just in case any emergency, you can reach out to me. This phone is registered under my assistant's name. So no one will track you. I mean it when I said, let me know if you need anything."

Abel passed me my first pay check and said, "Here you go. Get yourself some new clothes and I'm pretty sure Nick need a new shoes."

"Thanks, Abel," I said, looking at Nick who is playing with Jackie outside of the kitchen. I counted the money and pass her the rent, "This is the rent that I've promised you."

Abel waved her hand at me, "Don't worry about that. Cain has settled it for you. You're good to go for another six months."

"Why would he do that?" I asked and frowned.

Abel raised her eyebrow, "Well, you go ahead and ask him."

I sighed, told Jackie to look after Nick for me while I go and look for Cain. He was on his phone when I knocked on his door. He glanced at me then said to whoever is on the line, "Yes. Let me know the date so that I can close down En Blue for the interview. Yes, thank you."

He disconnected the call and said to me, "Come in and shut the door behind you."

I raised my brows at his request. He has never shut his office door ever. He leaned against the table, his grey eyes gleaming under the lights. He folded his arms, "I see that you got your pay and I know what you're thinking."

"Cain, thank you for doing all these for Nick and I. But this is getting out of hand. Please, let me pay you back the rent."

He closed up our distance in few steps, his eyes studying my reaction. My heart is coming out of my mouth when he brushed his thumb on my face, tucking a piece of stranded hair behind my ears. "Use a different way to thank me, Kendall. I have been waiting to do this but because of your situation, I didn't want to scare you off."

"Cain..."

He placed his thumb on my lips and said, "I cannot wait any longer, Kendall. Push me away, ask me to stop if you don't want this."

I can feel his breath on my lips. I have never felt like this before. My mind is in a mess. I couldn't think straight. Even though I have been avoiding how I feel about Cain and his gestures, but this time when he is this close to me, my mind and my heart is screaming for him to do it. To kiss me. Frustrated, I grabbed the collar of his shirt, I pulled him down to meet his lips.

Bloody fucking hell.

When she pulled me down to meet her lips, all I could think of is how sweet she tasted. I lifted her up to my desk, our lips locked, tongues tangling and seeking comfort with each other.

"Goddammit, Kendall." I breathed out, my forehead against hers as she regained her breathing. "Fuck the rent. You're staying here for free. I am not letting you and Nick out of my sight."

A shy smile appeared on her beautiful face. If I'm not holding her, my legs might just give up. My body is craving for her. My body is yearning for her touch. When she wrapped her arms around my neck, I am gone. I could only think about how good she felt in my arms.

A photo frame that I didn't get the chance to put away, was swipe down to floor with a thump. It broke our kiss. I looked at the frame, facing us. My body went cold. I felt Kendall tensed up. She pushed me away, flustered. "I should go. I'm sorry, we shouldn't have done that... I... I should go."

Then she ran away.

Fuck!

I have totally forgotten to throw that photo away. It is a photo of Emma and I, in bed with our sleepy face. That was taken before I found out that she cheated on me and got pregnant. I was about to clean up my office and throw that shit away but I got too busy and too focused on Kendall that I totally neglected it.

Abel showed up at my office with a knowing smile, "Why did Kendall ran out of your office with her lips swollen, Cain?" Abel took a look at my face then she looked at the photo on the ground.

"Cain, Cain." Abel sighed, "Are you still hung over her even after everything she had done? You almost had Kendall, Cain. If you're not serious about her, don't break her heart. And, for fuck sake. Get rid of that damn photo."

I waited until everyone left the restaurant then I went upstairs to look for Kendall and Nick. The door is once again, open. She is too comfortable in this place that she forgot what is a fucking lock for.

I went inside to see the dinner still sitting on the table. Both plates are wiped clean. I put the leftover inside the fridge, placed the plates in the sink before I go and look for Kendall and Nick.

I opened the door to the bedroom and found Kendall asleep in Nick's bed. I sighed, walking towards them, brushing Kendall's hair away from her face.

Aden was right. Once I know she is the one for me, there is no way I can ever let her go again. I want everything of her, including Nick. I am going to make sure Kendall and Nick are safe in my arms.
