Brushing my long hair behind my ear, I step outside and into the rain.

I try my best to stay as dry as possible. The bucket with the organic waste in my right hand and the left hand above my eyes to keep the rain from blurring my sight, I hurry towards the dumpsters.

Oh Jayeon, you should have brought a jacket, I think to myself as my sweater and sweat pants get wetter and wetter by the second.

Actually, I enjoy the sensation of the cold drops of water on my skin. I have always been one to like the rain.

Rain is not afraid to touch you. It doesn't stay away from you or tries to avoid you, no matter how many other people do. Rain has never been afraid to get close to me and I actually love it for that.

Weird, isn't it? But that's just me.

I sigh as I get rid of the trash and when I close the lid of the dumpster, I hear a small noise to my left. Surprised, I look around me, trying to make out where the noise came from.

"Hello?", I ask in a rather dumb voice. It's probably just a cat or something but I can feel nervousness build in my stomach. Again, I try to screen my eyes from the rain that is getting stronger now.

And suddenly I see him. I gasp more out of surprise than out of shock and instinctively hold one hand over my mouth.

The boy is huddled down on the opposite side of the street, leaning against a house wall with his back, his arms crossed in front of his chest to save warmth, his head hangs low.

I blink twice, but he is still there. I wonder what a boy is doing out in this weather and I am worried because he doesn't look well. He simply cannot be well if he' s been sitting in the rain like that.
For half a minute or so I just stand there dumbstruck because I am just too surprised.

Finally I manage to get myself together.
"Uhm excuse me?", I speak up as I walk towards him and slightly tilt my head to catch a glance of his face. "Are you okay?"

He doesn't answer. I'm not sure if he has even noticed me yet, so I continue walking until I am only an arm's length away from him. I lean down and repeat myself: "Excuse me-"

I remind myself to be careful. I don't know him and it could be a trick. He could be a robber or even worse - I don't even want to think about it.

He looks up and I realise that I have actually seen him a couple of times before. I think he is one of the students at my uni, but I'm not a hundred percent sure. However, it makes me feel a little relieved because that probably means that he is not a drug junkie, who is out to murder someone.

And as he looks into my eyes through the pouring rain, I just know that he is not here out of evil motives.

"Are you okay?", I ask again because I don't know what else to say. I catch myself stuttering. I would never have dreamed of something like this happening to me.

In the fanfictions I read like crazy, yes, such things tend to happen there all the time but in my own, personal, boring, uneventful life? Nope. Not one match.

I almost miss as he nods slightly because I got caught up in my thoughts.

"What are you doing outside in this weather? Why don't you go home? Do you need help? Should I call the ambulance? Or the police perhaps?", I get a little worked up as I talk because I just can't hold myself together anymore. The numerous questions are just spilling out of me but I force myself to stop and bite my lip as I see him shaking his head, again ever so slightly.

"I uhm used to live over there", he nods his chin into the direction of the student's dormitory that I just left. "B-but I got kicked out. I've got n-no place to go." I can hear a light stutter in his voice and it is only now that I realise that he is shivering.

"What do you mean you got kicked out?", I ask confused.

I wonder How come I didn't notice he was living in the same house as me? But then I tell myself it is not all too strange since there a lot of students living there and I haven't seen many of them since I've moved in.

"My girlfrie-" he stops himself before he continues "Ex-girlfriend kicked me out. We broke up."

I nod as I am processing the information and consider my options.

My mum always told me I was going to get in trouble if I was too kind and if I trusted people too easily, but it is just my nature to feel the urge to help every poor living soul that I can find.

But I'm not stupid, so I slowly say: "If what you say is true, and you lived over there, I am sure that you can show me your student ID, huh?"

I want to use his answer as a confirmation as to if I can trust him. His story seems to make sense and if he can prove that he indeed is a student at the local uni, I guess that I can trust the rest of his story to be true too.

At first he looks confused but then he moves one of his hands to the inside pocket of his green jacket to pull out his wallet. He holds up the small plastic card so I can read it and I am again relieved to see that he owns a valid student ID.

This is proof enough for me that his story is true.

I can't just let him sit outside in the downpour in nothing but a thin jacket. He will catch his death. So I take all of my courage to speak up again: "You can't stay outside in this weather. You should come inside with me... I live in the dorm too."

He looks more than surprised now and holds my gaze. As he looks up to me from his huddled position, I can't help but think that he is beautiful. The wet, blonde strands of his fringe stick to his forehead and his cheeks are a little rosy from the cold.

"What? I mean- are you serious?" His voice is deep, but silent this time.

I can still see him shudder from the cold, so I just nod and smile: "I'm serious and I am as sure as I can be." I'm a little surprised at how confident I am all of a sudden but I'm certainly not complaining.

I even offer him my hand and he takes it. As I pull him on his feet I am surprised at how light he is but I push the thought aside and motion him to follow me to the dormitory.

I do a little sprint to get out of the rain as fast as possible and from the corner of my eye I can see that he follows my example.

When we reach the front door of the dormitory, I push it open hastily and stumble inside.

"Wow, finally", I sigh and shake myself a little bit to shake off the rain and the cold and I notice an ever so slight smile peeking through the gloomy expression of my new acquaintance.

"Oh I totally forgot, my name is Oh Jayeon by the way."

"I'm Min Yoongi", he answers "uhm, nice to meet you."

I can't help but grin at his remark as I wave at him to follow me upstairs to the second floor.
