Jude sat in his tree house. It was one of those humid summer nights where it was too hot and the air too damp for someone to sleep comfortably. He looked out at the rain and sighed. He was contemplating on whether or not he should check up on (y/n). His eyes turned to his now empty birdcage as he weighed the pros and cons of doing so. A knock sounded on the hatch of his tree house, making the boy jump slightly. Maybe it was Joey. Hopefully, it was Joey. The hatch opened and (y/n) popped their head into the elevated sanctum of the male child.
"Hey, Jude. Couldn't sleep?" They climbed the rest of the way in and secured the hatch.
"Something like that. You?" He moved closer to the cage to allow them to sit between the wall and him which he knows they prefer.
"Uncle Kyle is kinda stuck working on his next project. His sounds of frustrated anguish are a bit much," they said as they sat at their usual place next to Jude.
"Well, it is quieter than a mausoleum over here. Joey is out, and Roxy left for groceries hours ago." He let them lean against him. He smiled knowingly when their (e/c) eyes drooped from exhaustion.
"So, what spy missions have you been up to recently?" They hummed in a sleepy haze.
"You know that's confidential." He droned.
"You can tell me like you're telling me about a 007 movie," (y/n) said as they laid their head on his shoulder.
"Ah, there you have me in a corner." He sighed causing them to laugh.
"I'm the one in the corner bird boy." They gave him a serious look.
"You are an adorable goof I assure you, but your methods are lacking," he said with slightly narrowed eyes.
"Why won't you tell me the story of your current escapades?" They pouted.
"Go to sleep, (y/n). You need it."
"So do you." They mumbled as they passed out on his shoulder. He shook his head slightly and fell asleep too.
When Joey made her way to Jude's tree house, the squee she made from the shipping feels was met with a nerf bullet dart thing to her glabella given by her brother, who happened to have one handy thanks to a series of rather interesting warfare exercises that must be kept confidential of course. (He was sharpshooting with (y/n) and he didn't think that they were ready for a real gun quite yet.)
