Prologue
I’m sure you’ve all heard of the same old cliché story.
You know the one with the nerd girl who has frizzy hair and glasses. She manages to capture the attention of the captain of the football team, who’s really a jerk.
But it’s always like he’s never seen her before, or never talked to her and somehow they meet. I don’t know, maybe they ‘bump into each other’ or it’s ‘a dare’ for the popular guy to date the nerd. Somehow they manage start talking and she realises that he isn’t as jerk-ish as she first thought. As the story progresses the nerd girl goes to some party or whatever, because you know, that’s definitely what nerds do. Or wait! No sorry, her best friend who happens to be really good at doing other people’s make-up, makes her wear a revealing dress and forces her to attend. The nerd undergoes a major transformation, now with straight hair and no glasses and a ton of makeup the popular jock sees her and they begin to fall in love. You know, because a guy like that only realises he likes someone when they become pretty. And apparently having frizzy hair and glasses is a big no-no.
Well, I’m tired of these freaking cliché novels with the same predictable and yet unrealistic plot lines. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a hopeless romantic and it’s nice to have these stories every now and then. But after a while it just becomes so incredibly tiresome.
I mean, how often in real life does the nerd girl get the guy? And is the nerd girl even accurately displayed? Because in most stories I’ve read she seems to forget all of her geek-ish ways and is out partying before long. I think, if you’re going to write a cliché novel, at least make it as realistic as possible.
While we all love to daydream and get caught up in made up love affairs sometimes, all we need is a good realistic piece of writing that is relatable.
A/N: Okay, a few things I wanted you to know about this prologue.
a) It's realllllly short- I know, I know (it's more of an extended note from the character) Please no complaints, okay?
b) It's kind of completely different from the original storyline. I'm undergoing some serious re-editing and adjusting to the plot line (considering I haven't updated in like a century). So please bear with me, or simply don't read the story yet if you find it frustrating. But I promise I will have more updates soon. Re-writing is a long and painful process.
Much love xx
