The Dimensioneer, Layton Song, is a Time Lord. His parents are the Doctor (the 8th to be exact) and River Song. He has two brothers, an older brother, David, and a younger brother, Rulldethuariduskborafonar (or Rulldeth) as well as a twin sister, Rebekah with whom he likes to argue about who is the eldest - who really is the eldest? Nobody knows...

ANYTHING BEYOND HERE IS SPOILERIFIC

Layton also has a younger sister named Christmas who was taken away at a young age. Only the Doctor, River, Layton, David and the Master know of her existence.

His first known love interest is Polly Wright, the First/Second Doctor's companion, though the two are no longer together by the time of the first episode. The first episode takes place on his wedding to Ashildr, the immortal viking girl from the 9th series of Doctor Who. After Ashildr's death in season 9's opening episode "A Matter of Life and Death", Layton spirals out of control, going into retirement in Victorian London. Luckily, he meets Mollie Dawson, a maid of Edward Waterfield and Theodore Maxtible. Layton grows closer to Mollie as he believes she saved him from retirement. Mollie travels with Layton until returning to Victorian London once again in season 18's "The Black Scorpion". She does however make an appearance in the Christmas episode of the same season, "Paternoster". In Ancient Greece, Layton meets Althaea, a woman who's eye for adventure attracts Layton. This relationship does not last long however since Althaea decides to return to her own time after witnessing many deaths. In season 21's 2 part Mafia adventure, Layton meets Margarita Bianchi, the innocent daughter of a crime boss. In season 28, the first female incarnation of Layton constantly asks what type of woman she is. In the final episode of season 28, Layton discovers that Margarita is a traitor and exiles her, declaring that she is a "no second chances" woman. In season 33's "The Dilettante", Layton falls in love with Michelle LaBella while working on a mission in France. A while after Michelle is killed off, Layton is forced into a relationship with Andra'ath. At first, he complains about the situation but grows used to it as time goes by. Layton's other relationships include:

• Madame Karabraxos
• Carmen
• Meira, a Silurian
• Catherine Stewart, the granddaughter of Kate Stewart.
• Car Park, a Red Kang from Paradise Towers
• Sammy and Tammy, a human and her failed ganger who fight over him.
• Charlotte
