Reunion 2

                           

Rewinding back to four months ago...

I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket turning the worried expression on my face to a frown. This was not how I imagined my journey at all. I had finally gotten to Calabar and I was under the rain looking for any sign of a cab. The tree I was standing under wasn't any help cos my clothes were drenched and to crown it all, my body did not choose any other day to remind me that I wasn't pregnant but today. It was safe to say that luck was definitely not on my side. Finally a cab stopped and after much bargaining on the fare cos the driver called an outrageous price blaming it on the fact that it was night and raining, we zoomed off to the hotel where my friends were.

Why are we in Calabar? We are on a girl's trip,  something like a vacation. We have always wanted to do this  but something always comes up and we have to cancel. It's either we did not have enough money or one of us were caught up with something. So yes, and I repeat yes we were excited that this was finally happening. I felt my phone vibrate again as I adjusted my body to reach my phone in my back pocket.

"where are you?" Ifeoma shouted causing me to pull the phone away from my ear. At the background I could hear Ada complaining of how she warned me to start my journey early causing me to roll my eyes.

"Am close, chill" I said as I tried to clean the window to see clearly.

"Oh, good. You have gotten a cab?" she asked

I squinted "no am swimming,  see you guys soon. Pray I don't drown"

"Yeah yeah, whatever. Just get your ass here" Ijeoma murmured

It wasn't up to twenty minutes we got to the hotel I was going to be staying for the next two weeks. The hotel was lit up with lights that could literally blind a person. I had to blink several times to adjust to the lights as I pushed my glasses along the bridge of nose to fit my face properly. I confirmed from the cab guy to make sure this was the exact hotel I told him as I highlighted dragging my box along with me. I walked towards the entrance while observing the place. There were flowers of different kinds grown almost everywhere. The walls of the hotel were beautifully built with stones of different kinds and colours with fountains pouring out coloured water due to the reflection of the lights. I hurried into the hotel, spoke with the receptionist and she directed me to the room but not before confirming with my friends if they were expecting anyone.

"Hey, hey who is here?" I banged on the door. The door opened revealing Ada who had a big smile on her face with her hand wide spread ready for a hug and Ifeoma making a call and waving at me and signalling me that she's on a call.

"Air, I need to breath" I struggled out of Ada's hug.

"You are here" she squealed and started dancing our mobo dance. It's a dance we do whenever we were so happy. I dropped my box and joined in the dance, Ifeoma followed suite till we couldn't take it anymore and busted into laughter.

"Oh my gosh, we are finally here. We are doing this. We are on a vacation. I cannot believe this" IJeoma said emphasizing on the word believe. "Wait, wait. Nobody shout, nobody move. Let's not jinx this"

"Oh please,, nothing can stop us now" Ada poured out making bust into another fit of laughter.

" We finally made it girls, we finally did it" I said looking into space with the pretence of giving a life changing speech with my hands placed on my chest.

"How long have we been planning this, how long?" Ada faked a sad expression

"Since third year back then in school" IJeoma laughed it out

"First it was Abuja, then that didn't work out" I said already pulling my clothes and thinking of the hot shower am going to be getting real soon. "then the second one was Ghana,  but a certain someone decided to break up with the only contact we had there, real nice Ada...

"Wow,  so happiness doesn't matter at all"

"Who cared about you happiness? That was meant to be the first time of us leaving Nigeria, but no ooooooooooooooooooo. You decided to put your happiness before us, your friends"

"Could you be more selfish" I chipped in, shaking my head at her with a disapproving loom on my face

"Wow, such good friends I have. You guys are the best"

"We know" I said heading towards the bathroom when in an instant I bent over holding my abdomen due to the sharp pains felt "fuckfuckfuck"

"Cramps? Ada asked

"Cra....a..mps" I managed to out that through my clenched teeth as I walked towards the bathroom at a slow pace.

This is exactly how I imagined starting this vacation...what joy that fills my soul.
