Chapter 13: Breaking Out

Wallace Burke was good on his promise that jail wouldn't keep him for very long. Before his trial, Wallace escaped by knocking out the guards. He had help from his prison buddies and they escaped without much effort. Alice feared for her family, friends, and Asher. She stayed up all night and was waiting for Asher to call her. He was in Pensacola for a few days and was just finishing a show with his band. Asher called Alice and heard the three words he wasn't expecting, "Wallace Burke escaped." He drove through the night after cancelling the rest of his band's shows.

Alice's thoughts were, "After months of bliss, this had to happen. Carly was going to get justice but now the monster that killed her had broken out of jail." She called her mom and dad. She said, "Make sure Ashton, Becca, Janie, and Jake are safe. Who knows where Wallace will strike since he is now back to torment us." Tara soothed her daughter by saying, "The police are on it and so is your father. He has placed bodyguards to protect everyone we care about so Wallace won't get a chance to attack any of us. I love you sweetie!" Alice immediately calmed down and took a deep breath. She said, "I am going to wait up for Asher. Thank you, Mom for calming me down!  I love you too! Tell Dad I love him!" After they hung up, Alice called Jeremy to check on him and Penny. Jeremy informed her that Penny was staying with family out of state and he was busy with desk duty so all was well. He promised that if he heard anything about Wallace that he would let her know.

Ashton, Becca, Janie, and Jake were going to stay with Tara and Nick after they heard the news about Wallace. Janie protested saying she had a date with her now boyfriend, Harry Dean. She stayed quiet after Ashton said, "After Wallace Burke is caught you can go out on your date. I will even approve of him dating you if you listen to your old man." Janie gave her dad a hug and a kiss on the cheek beaming after his words. Alice was busy cooking dinner when she heard a noise, then the lights went out. The front door opened and then it slammed closed. She crouched then crawled her way outside. Alice knew if she stayed inside that she would be easy prey for Wallace. She started to run to her parents house while a black figure chased her.

Wallace had her in his grasp and said, "Hello again! I told you that my promise would happen. You will finally die, Alice." He dragged her all the way back to her house. She tried to fight back by kicking and punching him but nothing worked. Wallace finally knocked her out cold. When she woke up, Alice was tied to a chair and gagged. She felt helpless and weak. Wallace held a knife to her neck and said, "Looks like Asher is finally home. Now I can finally have my revenge." Asher drove into the carport and ran into the house to check on Alice. He noticed the lights were out.  Asher was on edge.  He called 911 with his cell phone and said, "I believe Wallace Burke is here at 2121 Rose Place. My wife is in trouble! Please get the police here quickly!"

Asher finally found Alice in the living room. She had bruises on her body from fighting with Wallace. He knew that Wallace was right behind him and jabbed him with his elbow in the nose. He fought with him over the knife. Asher had the dagger and held it to Wallace's chest. He said, "My wife will never be bothered by you again! You have terrorized her enough!" It took everything he had not to stab him. Jeremy arrived with back up saying, "We got him Asher! He won't escape again!" Asher gave Jeremy the knife and hurried to Alice to untie her. Alice and Asher embraced. They gave each other a kiss and said, "Thank goodness they got him!" Wallace unexpectedly pulled out a small gun that was in his pocket and pointed it at Alice. Asher moved in front of Alice to shield her when Jeremy pulled out his gun and shot Wallace Burke dead. Jeremy made sure to check his pulse. Wallace Burke was finally gone but the people he busted out with were still out there. They were all going to rest a little more easy since Wallace Burke was finally not going to be a problem.

Wallace's escaped prison buddies had already made a club dedicated to the black hoodie guy. They had plans to create destruction in San Marcos by targeting the people who Wallace Burke wanted dead first then they would attack at random. It would be up to Jeremy, Asher, and Alice to stop this mayhem. Jeremy informed them, "The guys that broke out of prison told a few prisoners that they were coming after you since they were Wallace Burke's biggest fans. I promise to help keep you safe." Asher replied, "Looks like I am back to being a bodyguard. I will protect my wife and help you take down those want to be black hoodies." Jeremy and Asher shook on it. As soon as Nick and Ashton were informed, they jumped at the chance to help because no one messes with family.
