~*~ Third Person POV~*~

“Penni.” Slender knocked once, no answer. “Penni.” He knocked again, “Penni.” He knocked for the last time, knowing one of her favorite shows, The Big Bang Theory had one of the male leads do the same on the female lead’s door. Sheldon and Penny: he thought, recalling the names of the characters. He also knew they were her ‘OTP’, meaning ‘one true pairing’ on the internet. There was a lot of strange things he knew about the human girl. He’d also hoped the reference would make her feel just a tiny bit better. It didn’t.

“Go away!” She screamed back at the Slender Man, he could feel his nonexistent heart breaking. He knew he had done wrong, but it didn’t make it any easier.

“Please Penni.” He pleaded to her with all of everything he had. He hated how he had hurt Penni. He had hated it since the first time he saw her mom hit her and it felt even worse the first time she inflicted pain on herself. Why had I done it? He thought to himself,

“I don’t want to talk to you.” She said, her voice filled with the kind of pain you feel when a loved one has hurt you. A pain he had caused her.

The Slender Man sighed, walking away from the door. He didn’t blame Penni, but he hated himself for the whole problem. He shouldn’t have gone out that night, but how could he have known he’d kill the father of the girl he’d grow to love?

He sat down on his couch, resting his elbows on his knees and putting his head in his hands. How is it possible to fuck up things this bad? He thought to himself. The past nine and a half hours since he had told Penni had been spent wallowing in needless self-pity (not including the three hours he spent hunting with Jeff).

Penni, on the other hand, was still lying on Sally’s bed, in the exact same position as she had been in since she first had found refuge in the fifteen year old girl’s room. Every so often Jeff, Sally or Eyeless would come in grab a thing or two and leave. No one in the small house knew exactly what Penni was feeling, but they had an idea. Besides Sally’s talk, they’d mostly left the girl alone to think or figure things out.

She felt empty, and not just from the lack of food. Every part of her simple being was numb, except her thoughts that were racing around in her head. How does one properly go about finding out their boyfriend killed their father ten years ago? There really isn’t a clear answer to that question. But, besides that question, there was one she wanted a simple answer to: why me?

In reality, there was also no answer to that question either. All the questions she wanted answers to didn’t have answers. She blamed herself, she shouldn’t have fallen in love with a killer. But she couldn’t help it, everything he did intrigued her. For example: in the mornings he would make food just for Sally, her, and Eyeless if he had stayed the night. Or how much he cared for Sally. How he acted as if he hated his brothers with a passion, but the moment they needed his help he’d be there.

A sudden soft knock on the door rips Penni away from her thoughts. It wasn’t Slender, she knew that for a fact. But who else would knock?

“Come in.” She whispered, voice still hoarse.

The door slightly creeped open for a thin and lean figure to slip in. Surprisingly enough to Penni, it was Eyeless Jack. They hadn’t talked once since she’d moved into the house.

“Hey Penni…” He muttered in a low voice.

“Hi.” She replied weakly. What the hell was he doing there, talking to me?

“Okay, might as well get this over with. Sally is damn near intolerable when she wants something done, but I do love her dearly which is the precise reason I agreed to do this. Slender also wanted me to do this, and after seven hours of hearing them both so quiet and on edge, one wishes to end the problem, which brings me as to why I’m in here. First off, you need to eat something, Sal will bring you something when I leave. Second, I’m not going to tell you to go talk to Slender, that seems like it would end worse than it would progress things, but you do need to escape mine and Sally’s room- the reasons being quite obvious since we don’t have to worry about hearing you and Slender for quite a while. Now, apart from mine and Sally’s sexual intents for the rest of the night- if you do leave- this is extremely unhealthy. That, and Slender is very concerned for your well-being. Despite everything, he still cares deeply for you. It’s not often that Slender loves someone considering the fact he hates everyone and everything, not including the select people he can care about. From what I’ve seen, you’re a good girl, and you really ought to know that no good comes from hating a person- or thing in Slender’s case- that rarley loves.”

“I don’t hate him.” She said truthfully. She still loved him, no matter how much it hurt.

“It seems as if you do.”

“Well I don’t. And for someone who hasn’t said a word to me since he met me, you’re being a douche.”

“Only because our first conversation has had to be on these matters.”

“I’m so fucking done.” She said, walking straight past Jack and out of the room, where Sally waits right outside the door.

“Wait! Penni!” She stopped Penni. She actually still had some tolerance for the small killer. “I know he can be a dick, trust me. But the good parts of what he said were true.”

      “Doesn’t matter, Sal. I just… where’s my food?”

“Here.” She said, reaching behind her and grabbing a McDonald’s bag for Penni.

“Goodbye Sal.” Penni said, making her way to Slender’s momentarily unoccupied room.

While Jack had talked to Penni, Slender had decided to collect his two favorite proxies from his brother. There was no conversation made between the siblings before Slender left. He had managed to return to the home with Masky and Hoodie before it happened.

Slender had assigned his proxies to watch Penni’s every move. He only wanted her to be safe, no matter how pissed off she was at him. He didn’t think anything would actually happen, but Penni was a weird human. After only forty five minutes he was never more worried about Penni nor glad he’d chosen to have his proxies watched his girlfriend- if you could still call her that. It was because two simple word a breathless Masky had told him: She left.
