The adjecent streets were blocked by countless of cars thrown in a promiscuous manner and above them rised grandiose buidlings from which spewed dark flames. It was a cloudy day,so these flames fused with the skyline of the city forming a dark reddish palette with a blue tincture to it.This could all be seen from the window that Simon was looking thtrough, while Kasper was recovering from the shock. The kid felt aghast but at least he didn't swoon anymore. His condition had become much better as he overcame the fact, that his sister was gone and was trying to overcome the fact that his mother might have met the same fate.
It has been an hour since they first began thinking of a plan to escape without getting themselves killed in the process.Kasper was standing on the window scouting the surrounding area while Simon was setting a radio that he found in one of the offices.
"Is there any progress" asked Kasper mindfully.
"No signal yet" answered Simon
"How about you?" he added
"I can only see doom outside" said Kasper with neutral face.
He then turned around and asked
"Can you explain to me again how do you know that the military will contact us?"Simon straightened up his head and said.
" we had our military training, they tought us that in case of emergency,we should always find a radio, set it to a specific frequency and wait to be called"Kasper nodded and asked
"And do you really belive they are going to contact us?"Simon stood up and said with pride
"I am a Captain in the United States Airforce and believe me,they need me right now!"Kasper looked at him for a bit and said to him
"You have been setting that radio for an hour now and nobody has answered yet."Just as Simon was about to start arguing, the radio produced a static sound encouraging them both to sharpen their ears and focus on the signal.Simon carefully grabbed a pin on the radio and rotated it just a tiny bit and the signal cleared.
"This is Captain Shepard of the U.S Airforce,we are transmitting on the emergency channel available for the military only. We are having an active chinook in the skies bearing 13347 and heading to New York. The mission is to evacuate all military personnel in the area. The evac is going to take place on the 285 Fulton st. atop the New World Trade Centre. Please be advised! All personnel must be at the top of the building by 2:30 pm. I repeat, all personnel must be at the top of the building by 2:30 pm...this is an order..."
The signal shutted down and the radio continued transmitting static sound once again.Kasper and Simon looked at eachother for a second and the Captain decided to break the stare,by taking the already prepared pencil and sheet of paper and write down the newly served information. In the meantime Kasper packed the backpack and waited for Simon's call.
"We are really lucky, budd." said the Captain.
Kasper looked him with a confused face
"The evac point is less than a mile away and we have more than an hour to get to the designated area" he added.
Kasper nodded again confirming he had understood, but he felt uneasy as if he forgot about something.
It hasn't been five minutes and they've already covered one third of the ground, that they have to walk. They were moving stealthy, but swiftly as they jumped over cars, avoided tameless fires and moved around big chunks of rocks, that have fallen from the enormous buildings around them. They couldn't see anything other than the stone-death corpses of victims to the still ongoing attacks, that could be heard in the distance.
