The Dragon sprang forth from the ledge and, like a gale, passed the Prince, climbed the mountain, vaulted himself on ledge and leapt unto the windowsill before the Princess. He opened his mouth an let pour a stream of fire. Crimson flames and jet smoke billowed from every window and the Princess let fall her death cry. The Prince cried out and ran to face the Dragon, but his enemy bore down upon him. Bitter was their fight but valiant though the Prince was, the Dragon defeated him and cast his body from the cliffs. He broke upon the sheer rocks and was at last ended. The villagers helplessly watched the scene in horror. The Captain of the Prince's guard then cried 'For our lord! We shall have vengeance upon this Dragon! Ride forth!' 'Vengeance? Vengeance! Fie! No man shall have vengeance against me,' was the response he received from the Dragon. The Drake then descended and fought with the Princes' lieutenants in the Village. They scored many blows upon him, but the hide of the Dragon was still too thick and he burned every one of the Princes' men. He then set fire to the Village and ate the villagers. As the flames climbed high into the night sky, the Dragon left, in search of a new Princess.
