Ten months ago.
She knew that this was eventually going to happen. Yet when the day finally came, her heart still ached, and no amount alcohol could cure the damage that was done, let alone stop the tears from falling.
It's over. He doesn't love you anymore. The words kept on ringing in her head like some haunted melody that wanted to devour her alive.
Even if the alcohol couldn't kill the lingering sadness within her right now, she still drank to her heart's content. She thought it was much better this way, so she ordered one shot after another until she got too drunk she swore that if she stood up, her legs would immediately give up on her.
"Maybe alcohol wasn't the best cure to a heartbreak after all," Miyuki remarked as her secretary almost seemed to be dragging her all the way to her limousine.
Her secretary, Aika, made all efforts not to scream at the twenty-five-year-old woman. "Of course it isn't! Look Miyuki, I don't mind you drinking at all, but getting drunk while you're all alone in some bar? You're better than that!"
Miyuki could only groan as a response. She couldn't even muster a reply because her head felt like it was spinning endlessly, and her legs wobbled as if they were gelatin. Without her secretary to support her, Miyuki would have crawled her way back to her penthouse (yes, she didn't even bother going there with her personal driver). Lucky for Miyuki, Aika easily knew of her whereabouts and managed to reach her before she wreaked havoc.
Well, it was not like the heir of Real Estates Horizons would be one to cause chaos once she got intoxicated in alcohol. In fact, even in her state of drunkenness, she managed to be poise. If only her unsteady movements and red-stained flesh didn't give her drunk state away so easily.
"Goodness Miyuki. How much alcohol did you even drink? You're not even one who gets so drunk easily." Aika scolded the black-haired woman as one of the bodyguards opened the door of the limousine for them. "Also, you didn't even bring any of your bodyguards with you! You're not just any person, Miyuki! Not to mention, what if you completely lose your senses?! You should know that-"
"Yes, yes..." Miyuki interrupted with her eyes shut, her head leaning back on the soft material of the car seat. She groaned even more once the vehicle started moving. "I should know very well that my safety should always be regarded, and most importantly, that my life is always in some form of potential danger. "
Thinking that Miyuki was done blabbering, Aika opened her mouth only to be halted again. "And that I should stop being so reckless with my emotions over my now ex-boyfriend, because he is just some man not worth crying over anymore and I should just get over him since I have other problems to worry about."
Aika stayed silent, waiting for her to say something else. She suppressed the urge to laugh, because Miyuki was quite amusing when she was drunk. Yes, she may be poise, but the part of her that won't shut up only happened once she was really drunk. With that being said, everyone was curious to see that side of her, but unfortunately everyone else that drunk with her always failed to get Miyuki tipsy first. Aika's one of the select few that witnessed this side of hers on an occasional basis.
However, the secretary's bright smile faltered once she started sobbing quietly.
"But Aika, it hurts." Miyuki started pounding her first in her chest. "Damn it. I thought he was the one I was going to marry. We were together for almost five years. Why?"
"Well, just because he's been with you long enough doesn't mean he's the one."
Miyuki only sobbed as a response. Aika had to congratulate herself later; she managed to find Miyuki before this side of hers erupted, and before things escalated to a certain point. It'd also be embarrassing to drag her out of the bar sobbing like she was some lost child, worse, if she completely lost control of herself. That would be quite scandalous, and she wouldn't want to hear any serious reprimanding from Miyuki's parents either.
