A/N: I have several chapters done but I'm stuck on this story at this point. I wanted to test this story to see what everyone thought. Hope you enjoy

A/N: The picture above is how she has her tent set up, just two tarps, slightly apart so she can have a fire in the middle.

Chapter 1 Lost Child

I was in my tent in the Redwoods just past the bridge. I had been out here for years; my parents had come out here with me and said they'd be back. That was five years ago. I set my home along the river using two tarps to set up my shelter with a part in it for the smoke of my fire. I headed down to the river and I saw something I didn't expect to see, a chimp in the river. I knew they weren't natural swimmers, not this young anyway. Hoping the current wasn't to strong I jumped into the river. I was too young to have the strength to fight with a strong current, but hopefully I was strong enough to save this chimp.

After several minutes I managed to get the chimp on my back and I swam down the river till I got my hands on a branch and pulled both of us out. "What are you doing so far from home little one?" I asked bringing the baby to my front as the tike coughed up water. I headed back to my camp with him or her. The baby would need to be dried and warmed up. The chimp colony was miles away, I knew they were here, I wasn't sure if they knew of me or not.

I restarted my fire and got out my deer skin blanket and wrapped the chimp up and sat close to the fire, holding the little one close, sharing my body heat once I was also dry. How did I send word to the colony? Where they already looking? If they were looking they would see the smoke from my fire, I hoped someone was looking for this little one. I was too young to raise a child; I was but a child myself.

I sang to my companion, not sure what to do at the moment. "Little child be not afraid

The rain pounds harsh against the glass

Like an unwanted stranger

There is no danger

I am here tonight

Little child be not afraid

Though thunder explodes

And lightning flash

Illuminates your tearstained face

I am here tonight

And some day you'll know

That nature is so

This same rain that draws you near me

Falls on rivers and land and forests and sand

Makes the beautiful world that you see

In the morning

Little child be not afraid

The storm clouds mask your beloved moon

And its candlelight beams still keep pleasant dreams

I am here tonight

Little child be not afraid

The wind makes creatures of our trees and the branches to hands

They're not real understand

And I am here tonight and someday you'll know that nature is so

This same rain that draws you near me

Falls on rivers and land and forests and sand

Makes the beautiful world that you see

In the morning
