chapter eleven; welcome to the loser's club, asshole
"YOU, YOU DID THIS. You know how delicate he is." Sonia yells at us and I roll my eyes.
"W-w-we were attacked, Mrs. K-" Bill starts but, Sonia cuts him off.
"No, no, don't." She demands, firmly, pushing her son into her car. "Don't try and blame someone else." She slams the car door shut, accidentally dropping her car keys in the process.
"Here let me hel-" Bev starts and reaches for the keys but the woman interrupts her.
"Get back!" She yells at her and picks up the keys herself.
"Oh, I heard of you, Ms. Marsh and I don't want a dirty girl like you touching my son," Sonia says right in Bev's face and my blood boils. I step forward to say something but, Bill holds me back.
"Mrs. K I s-s-swea-" Bill starts but Eddie's mom stops him.
"No! You are all monsters!" She yells at us. "All of you. I'm done with you, do ya hear? Done!" She walks around to the driver's side of her car and opens the door, getting in and driving away. We all walk out into the street and watch as the car zooms down the street.
"I saw the well," Bill says, turning around to face the rest of us. "W-we know where it is a-and next time we'll be better prepared."
"No!" Stan yells. "No next time, Bill! You're insane!"
"Why? We all know no one else is gonna do anything." I say.
"Eddie was nearly killed! And look at this motherfucker!" Richie screams, pointing to Ben. "He's leaking Hamburger Helper!"
"We can't pretend it's gonna go away. Ben, you said it yourself, it comes back every twenty-seven years." Bev says.
"Fine. I'll be forty and far away from here. I thought you said you wanted to get out of this town too." Ben argues.
"Because I wanna run towards something....not away," Bev tells him firmly.
"I'm sorry, who invited Molly Ringwald into the group?" Richie asks, pointing to Bev and she and I flip him off.
"Richie-" Stan starts.
"I'm just sayin' let's face facts. Real world. Georgie is dead. Mel is dead. Stop trying to get us killed too." Richie says and tries to walk away but Bill stops him. Tears form in my eyes but, I stop them from falling.
"Georgie's not dead!" Bill says, gripping Richie by his shirt.
"You couldn't save him but, you can still save yourself," Richie tells him and tries to walk away again but is pulled back by Bill again.
"No, take it back! You're scared and we all are but, take it back!" And with that Bill shoves Richie. Richie shoves him back and then Bill punches him.
