Melody King, Deputy U.S. Marshal was officially recruited from the office in Texas. She had driven miles from Texas to back to her birthplace of Kentucky to head to the Marshal service in Lexington. Chief Deputy Art Mullen had scheduled a meeting for Mel at the office to discuss further prospects for the future. This had chills running down Mel's spine, her jaw chattering with excitement.

She sat at the stoplight in her Black Camero, glancing out the window at the scenic beauty of Kentucky in the distance. The fields were in the most gorgeous shade of green with many horses grazing among it. But, for the most part, Kentucky was the crazy place where hillbillies would live, destroying the view with their yards covered in old garbage. Mel shook her head at the sight, checking up on the stoplight, which was still red. She sat back in her seat, letting her golden hair fall over her shoulders. She stared at the stoplight, clinching her hands over the steering wheel.

This had been the biggest move of her life, being recruited from one office to the other. Even though she was happy with it. She had an affair with the Chief Deputy in Texas for a couple months before he tried to become over-romantic and tried to tempt her. Mel kicked Aaron Barton out of her life and every time she came face to face, it scared her.

Then there was Jake Adams, the guy who had been her friend since high school, who was there to comfort her in the times of sadness. Ever since the moment she and her closest friend since 2nd grade who were together in a relationship for four years split apart, her life was turned around. She never saw him again and it broke her heart miserably.

At the time, she became a marshal in Texas. All she could think about was his mother telling her he took Mel's word and deployed to Afghanistan as a Sniper in the Rangers. She hoped she could apologize for her actions the next time she saw him. She wrote letters over and over for him, then disposing them in the trash. Her life was miserable, but she grew stronger.

The light turned green and she started back on the roads, but what drove her mind crazy was the next light that was red. Mel groaned with irritation, stopping her car at the next light. Her cell phone sat on the thigh of her leg, the casting a reflection of Mel. She reached out, picking it up and turned it on to reveal a picture of Mel and her sister Harmony with her two nieces, Dakota and Sarah. It made Mel's heart melt, knowing that she would miss her family back in Texas.

Back in Texas, Mel used to live with her sister for a while, as well as being the most wonderful aunt to her nieces. Dakota being the eldest child; loved having Mel around, even when the topics go around to talking about their crushes in high school or going to get manicures done together at the nail salon.

And then there is Sarah, the youngest, was the troublemaker, but the one with the most questions. Mel would answer every question that was asked except the one that was brought up. Why did Mel not get married and have kids? It was somewhat a dream to Sarah to have the most awesome cousins ever.

Mel set the phone back down, driving towards the courthouse when the light turned red. Rain started to sprinkle on the windshield; the clouds were dark, heavy with rain as the night pulled on. She pulled into the parking lot and parked her car, sticking her phone into her jean jacket. Mel hopped out of her Camaro, stretching her arms out then adjusted the top of sunshine yellow sundress. She came around the corner to the front of the courthouse then casually walked up the stairs to the entrance.

She went inside into the nice cool air conditioning, heading straight for the elevator. It opened up to let out a few people. She stepped inside the elevator, pressing the button to the fifth floor then she watched the doors close. She was left alone in the elevator, feeling the force of gravity take her upstairs.
