Melody made it to the entrance of the bar. She entered, finding Rachel alone at the bar sipping a glass of water. The bar was full of people, standing while watching a TV screen. It was the usual night when guys would come to a bar just to watch football. Mel partially cared about football, but it wasn't her life.

There was an empty seat right next to Rachel, so Mel made her way over to it. Happily as ever, Rachel turned to greet Mel with a cheerful grin.

Mel sat down, resting her arms on the bar. Her thoughts whirled around a glass of bourbon. This job opportunity was one heck of a move. Her family was left behind in Texas.

She glanced down at her phone, finding a text from Jake and Mandy asking about Kentucky. Mel chose to ignore the texts before turning to smile at Rachel.

Rachel definitely had a charismatic quality about herself. She seemed trustworthy and honorable with friendship. Her smile had charm.

"I'm glad you made it." Rachel murmured. She took a sip of water before dipping some of her chips in salsa.

"Well, I do need to make new friends." Mel shrugged, waving her hand for the bartender to come around.

"A nice glass of bourbon. I don't care what it is." She asked. The bartender swirled around to pull a bourbon off the shelf.

"I just can't stand living alone. Need someone to talk to." Mel shrugged. Her heart ached for a friend. Her friends were left back in Texas, leaving her with nothing but to start from scratch.

Rachel just chuckled, leaning against the bar. "How was work in Texas?" She asked. This was a conversation starter as Mel could tell.

"It was nice. I enjoyed working in the field, catching fugitives with assaults and prison bonds. Dirty work, you'd say." Mel replied.

"It's much the same here. Instead of Latinos and trusty cowboys, it's just miners and hillbillies."

Mel was handed a glass of bourbon. She took a swig before glancing at Rachel. "Basically a different atmosphere."

"Not really. You have weed and crystal coming and going, miners with such a history, they'd blow you to bits."

"Nice. Texas is just a bunch of drug addicts and robberies, missing persons and transport."

"Murders?"

"Those too. A typical thing we go after are the ones hiding."

"Texas must've sucked for you." Rachel joked.

"You'll like it here in Lexington." She smiled, patting her new friend on the shoulder.

This made Mel accept Rachel into her circle. It would be nice to be close to a colleague.

"What about family?" She asked, hoping to get a little more information.

"I have a sister and two nieces." Mel replied, slightly smiling. Her phone vibrated in her pocket as she received yet another text from her sister.

"I had a sister." Rachel paused.

"What happened?" Mel asked with curiosity.

"Killed in a car accident." Rachel replied slowly.

"Awe, Rachel. I'm sorry."

"It's fine."

"You know, if you need anyone to talk to, I'm here." Mel offered. Her kindness had shown such sorrow. She let a hand rest on Rachel's shoulder.
