He stared helplessly at his parents as they laid in their sickbeds.
The air was stiff and he could not move a muscle, he couldn't even if he tried. He then began to speak "Mother" he gestured to her "Father" then to him "What must I do?" he asked them both hoping that perhaps they would give a helpful and hopeful answer, which would have been a first since their sickness but alas they did not answer, they only stared at him with lifeless eyes. This only furthermore angered him, he was not ready to be king!
He had no wife, no expertise with being commanding or even being a king. In his 18 years of living, he had only known partying, flirting and fun, he definitely did not know what boring, lame and no-fun were as he had never felt those things before.
As they just stared at him, he grew more impatient "Please tell me!" his tone was angry and strong, he never talked to his parents like this before "Please" he begged. Finally, his father looked away "Son" he started "I believe that our sickness is the witch Marletta's doing" He finally said after weeks of his son pleading.
Balgair simply nodded "Then I must find her and put an end to this," he said hopefully. He knew where to find her and how to get there "I will go now and alone" His mother bolted upright "But son!' she exclaimed forcefully as if her sickness wasn't even there "You will get hurt, She's dangerous!" He understood her worry and quickly nodded "Do not worry mother for I will be back by daylight" He finally said and he held her hand. He hoped that was enough for her to be satisfied with his answer.
He kissed them goodbye and then off he went on his search for the sorceress. It took him only two hours to arrive where he had wanted to go.
He got off his horse and entered a dark forest, sword in his right hand and a shield in his left "Come out Merletta!" He yelled loudly, which caused ravens to fly off, then making the trees swish together. It was almost like a symphony of scary sounds, which he was not too pleased with.
The air felt cold and sharp, the sky was dark and brooding, the aura of the forest he was in was not a kind one. Still, he shook off those feelings quickly and kept moving but every step made him wonder if what he was doing was really worth it "Of course it's worth it!" he exclaimed out loud "Your parents are dying" he mentally slapped himself for even thinking about leaving.
As he walked slowly to the house she was said to stay in, more crow began to swarm the house, eyeing him carefully as if they were suspicious as if he were committing a crime. Sure breaking and entering is definitely a crime, but he was the prince! Who is going to yell at the prince for kicking a witch's ass and saving his parents life? nobody that's who.
The looked at the crows in disgust "Scram you filthy birds" he said to them hoping they would leave but yet they didn't. They all just kept flying around, being noisy and rude as most crows were. He then began to notice the ground rumbling and the trees shaking due to the birds all going crazy. Suddenly, all the crows started swooping in on him, attacking him left and right. He let out a yelp and fell down, hurting his arm in the process "Ouch!' he exclaimed in pain and lifted up his shield to protect himself.
Minutes went by and they kept attacking. He was thankful that his shield was a full body one but the weight of the birds on his already heavy shield was too much for him.
But suddenly it stopped.
Slowly, he got up to then see that all the birds were gone and now in front of him was a beautiful girl whom he had never seen before. She was very pale which contrasted oddly to her very long raven black hair and blue eyes. It was weird yet she made it work. He looked at her up and down, she was wearing and long black leather coat, thin leggings, and tall boots. He smiled to himself, what an odd combination. After a while of him staring at her, she finally spoke up "Stop bothering my birds you ignorant bonehead" He broke eye contact with her.
He gasped a little, looked back into her eyes, squinted his eyes at her "Do you even know who I am?" he asked, he did not believe that she couldn't know him. She eyed him carefully, looking at him up and down then back to his face "Someone irrelevant I suppose?" she finally said then grinned at her words, she definitely seemed satisfied as his reaction was to die for.
His chest puffed up "No" he said, taking a quick glance sideways " I am prince Belgair of Rosanna" He ruffled his hand through his hair "And I am far from irrelevant" he muttered without confidence as if he wasn't sure if he was relevant or not.
She simply grinned at him "Diana and Richmond's son" her eyes twinkled as she said their names, he didn't know if it was good or not though "Yes, They are my parents" He said coldly " And who are you?' he eyed her skeptically, like those crows had done with him earlier. She just simply looked away and smirked, probably to contain a laugh "You seek my presence yet you don't even know who I am" she said then laughed "How adorable" she walked off and left him in awe and disgust. In awe because no one had ever made him this flustered and angry. Disgust being because she had just called him adorable, not in the attractive cute way but in the puppy kind of way.
He groaned "Listen, I'm just here because you got parent sick and I need some sort of medication because I'm not ready to see them die" he informed. She just laughed out loud "Liar" She replied and he grew angrier "Excuse me"
She just kept laughing "That's really not why you want to get this medication!" She exclaimed "No, the fool just doesn't want people to bother him about royal kind duties" She walked off with so much sass he could not contain it "Just please give me it" he pleaded.
She turned "Oh no, your parents just simply do not deserve to live for what they have done to me"
