It's been a week. Seven days. All throughout that time, Louis hadn't heard anything from Gemma, nor the Styles family. He hasn't heard from his mum, either. He had been cooped up in his office, following his normal tedious routine over and over and- he thinks he could go insane if he didn't go out soon to have fun.

Regularly, he wouldn't mind following his dull routine, however, only if Zayn would come over every once in a while to crash his place. But it's been a week and he hasn't caught sight of that green haired fuck. And his only friend at work was Liam, yet, Liam seemed to be keeping a distance with him now and he has too much ego to ask why.

Ego.

A simple emotion, no, a simple negative emotion that Louis always had since he was small. Never being the one to lose, never to apologize, never to comfort, never to admit to his wrongdoings- all because he was ego

And he might have lost a few loved ones because of that, though, he would never admit it was because of him.

"Gemma, I want you to answer me properly and with respect. Why are you suddenly calling off the marriage?" Anne questioned her daughter, her voice soft and laced with a motherly tone.

"I'm not calling it off. I just wish for Harry to replace my spot, as I'm not quite yet ready for marriage and I want to finish my studies first. I want to get a job, live my life and when I think I'm ready, I'll settle down and get married. But now, I'm still young and I want to be free." Gemma tried to reason.

"Gemma, you delayed a year of your studies-"

"That's because we didn't have any money at the time and I wanted to get my own money so I wouldn't have to trouble you." She replied.

"Listen, marrying Louis is a great option for your studies. He's filthy rich, he can support you. You want to finish uni and get a degree, right?" Anne said.

"If only you knew!" Gemma blurted out. "Knew what?" Anne asked confusedly. Knowing she had made a mistake of almost spilling her and Louis' agreement, she tried to cover it up, "...knew how much I'd get distracted if I were to be in a relationship with someone while studying. That's why I never get a boyfriend during high school or uni." That was a complete lie. She had boyfriends, a couple of them, actually. She just never told her mother about it.

Anne was at a loss of words. Seeing this as an opportunity, Gemma continued. " Even if I did get married, I'd probably drop out anyways."

Anne was deep in thought. Gemma's education had always been her number one priority, and even when she delayed a year, Anne protested but there was nothing she could do seeing Gemma made her final decision. The thing is, she knows deep inside that she can never win against her own daughter, as her opinions and points are always valid and made much more sense than hers.

She wanted Gemma to have the best education, a degree, even a PhD if she could. She'd do anything if it meant her daughter not having to drop out or lack knowledge.

Harry, on the other hand, had never been smart like Gemma. Anne knows his little knowledge won't get him anywhere because of his disability. It wouldn't matter to him, because he never even finished school anyways.

Yes, Anne would do anything to see Gemma succeed. Even if it meant having his son make a sacrifice that he probably would be oblivious of the consequences.

"Well then, we 'ave to talk to Harry about this. 'M not sure how he'd react, though.." Anne mumbled.

"Okay, mum." Gemma said.
