"It's mom..." Becca's voice was trembling and she sounded like she was crying. A million thoughts were racing through my mind. Is she okay? What happened? Is it bad?
"What's wrong?" I asked with a bit of worry in my voice. "Please, tell me." I begged her. She took a deep breath and didn't speak for 30 seconds.
"She's in the hospital, she was over because she was visiting. She started to get chest pains and they got worse. I need you here...." Becca cried loudly and I sat down on the couch again.
"I can get there by the morning, I'll bring Eli." I replied after a good minute of listening to my older sister crying. No questions asked. I was going to the US for the first time in years.
"Thank you, Scarlet. I'll see you then." Becca hung up the phone and I started frantically looking for a flight tonight to Pittsburgh, since it was the nearest airport to my sister. When I finally found one, it was $200 round-trip. Not good but not terrible. I was so anxious that my fingers were shaking and my head was spinning...
After 20 minutes of buying the tickets, packing myself and Eli a bag: it was time to leave. I packed my tiny yellow volkswagen and drove as fast as I could to get Eli at practice. I must've broken 10 laws trying to get to the rink. 1 blown stop sign, tailgating, speeding up at a yellow light as it turns red.
When I finally got to the rink, I parked the car and ran inside frantically to grab Eli. I walked in to find Eli sitting at a table drinking yellow gatorade in full equipment. My son looked up at me, surprised and confused at the same time.
"Mommy, what are you doing here?" Eli hopped off of the chair and ran over to me.
"We have to leave to go see grandma in Pennsylvania. We're leaving right now to the airport." I didn't feel like telling him that his grandma that he met one time was in the hospital. My mom never made an effort to reach out to her only grandson, so far. Eli's looked at me with a face of pure confusion. I sighed and knelt down to his eye level.
"Buddy, your aunt Becca needs help with something important. It's about grandma." I explained to him as I studied his face and reaction.
"We're leaving now?" Eli looked back at his hockey coach and teammates. He turned back to me and I nodded. "Can I at least say goodbye?" He questioned me, as I stood back up normally.
"Of course you can. I'll wait right here for you." I took a seat and watched as my son said goodbye to his friends and coach. Eli quickly ran to change into regular clothes, before returning to me. After 10 minutes, he appeared in front of me with his hockey bag.

After being on the plane for 6 hours, I was getting restless. "10 hours to go." I thought to myself, as I looked out the window. The sky was pitch black and the buildings underneath us was shimmering. I never thought that I would be going to the US under these circumstances. This probably wouldn't of happened if I didn't connect with Becca again.
Eli sat next to me, asleep. He's been out cold since we took off and I didn't understand how. I glanced at my clock, it was around 1 AM. I decided to listen to some music to kill time. I was super anxious to see my family. It's been such a long time... The last time they saw me, I gave birth to Eli; who is now 5 years old.

Sidney
So, Geno got me to adopt a cat yesterday. I saw him in the shelter yesterday and I felt so bad for him. I named him Lawrence and he's a white and gray tabby. Never in my life would I think that I would get a cat by myself. It's been so nice though, he keeps me company and is very snuggly. I still think about Scarlet a lot though. I wondered how she was doing and how Eli was. I tried to distract myself by thinking of hockey and my cat.
Pre-season is approaching and I'm so excited to start. I miss my usual grind during the summer, I love getting to the rink early and getting ready for practice or a game.
As I was about to head to bed, my phone rang. I looked at the caller ID and couldn't believe my eyes.
Sorry this one is shorter!!! Been working on a new story as well that will be posted soon!
