Chapter 17

“Hey can you pass me the baby powder please?” I asked Tucker who was sitting on the couch watching tv. Tucker smiles over at me as he hands me the baby powder and I can’t help but feel like everything was going to be okay. Like it didn’t matter what the future held because I have my 2 babies. Tucker and Talon.

I smiled down at Talon as I pulled his sleeper back on. His tiny little hand gripped my finger.

There was a knock at the door and I listened as Tucker answered it. Robin walked in and his smile was so genuine I couldn’t help, but smile back.

“So good news first or really good news first?” He asked. Tucker walked behind me and put his arm around me Talon while snuggled into me.

“How about the good news first?” I said laughing at his happy go lucky attitude.

“We found him! And for the really good news. He is only a 3 hour drive away. We’re thinking you drop Talon off at Tuckers parents place for 2 days and we go and finish him before he can cause any more trouble.” I smiled a huge smile. After all this time I would finally have my revenge.

That night we all went to sleep early. We are going to leave in 2 days we called Tuckers parents and they were fine with it. The only problem was it is 3 o’clock am and I still couldn’t sleep. Then something that surprised me happened. The doorbell rang. I wasn’t sure who would be ringing the doorbell so late.

“Tucker… Tucker! The door bells ringing.” I said hoping he’d go answer it so that I could go to sleep.

“Noagj jslsd” Tucker said and I could tell he was tired because he wasn’t even speaking a language. I frowned to myself, but got up to answer the door anyways.

I opened it and an old man stood before me. His hair was white and a little long. His back was slouched and he was using a cane. He couldn’t be taller than 5’2 and just seeming him looking so close to death made my heart break.

“Hello how can I help you?” I asked.

“It is not how you can help me, but how my knowledge will help you.” He said and I took a step back at his voice. He sounded like a strong man.

“And how are you going to help me?” I asked.

“Well it starts off with you inviting me in. I am very old and standing for long periods of time is very painful to me.” He said.

“And how do I know you won’t try to rob me or hurt me?” I was never one to trust people.

“Because I am too old to use my magic, but you are in your prime, you could have me pinned in seconds and I’m not ashamed to admit it.” He said and I realized he too was a teaecho.

“Well by all means come in sir.” I said opening the door for him. When he stepped inside I led him to my living room. While he sat down I went to the kitchen and got us some tea and cookies. When I brought the tea in on a tray I noticed him staring at the picture of Talon, Tucker and I from the day Talon was born.

“This is an amazing photo of your family.” He said sitting down and taking a tea from the tray.

“Thank you, now may I ask why are you here?” I said trying to be polite, but really wanting to know.

“Yes, yes down to business of course.” He said smiling at me sweetly.

“I want to tell a story. I’ve been preparing this speech for 16 years, but I can’t get over how complicated it is. There once was this little baby that was born into a teaecho family. They weren’t expecting it so early. They thought that it was going to be at least another 5 months away so when the mother went into labour they were so excited, but terrified because it was so early. They weren’t sure what to do so they went to a teaecho healer. What happened shocked them to the core. It was born, but it had a brain tumor. They weren’t sure what to do it was so small and it wasn’t going to last the night. That’s when the healer had an idea. They were going to use the family’s powers to help save its life. They had to give it a little of their powers. Even the healer had to give it their powers. The healer was only young he was 17 at the time, but he was old for his age and the best at what he did. He gave some of his powers to help the poor baby. As the baby grew stronger, the family and the healer grew a tiny bit weaker with their magic. It was nothing that would physically effect them, only their magic. As the child grew older the tumor kept growing and the healer needed to put more magic into. At the ages of 3 6 and the last time at 11 the child was given life. When the family and the healer gave the child their magic the tumor would shrink to a tiny size, but it kept coming back. On the last visit the family only had a tiny bit of magic left to give to the child. So the family gave the child all its powers and the healer did a spell that gave the child 40 of its years of life. The man had no magic left, but he didn’t care because he had helped a beautiful child live a normal life.” The man paused taking a deep breathe. And then he continued. “I was born 33 years ago, but I am 73 years old I am the healer, and you are the child. Your powers are from your family and I. Your family didn’t give away any of their life. I would not let them. They would have lived long happy lives. You are so powerful because you were given so much magic, but now I see that it didn’t help you. I don’t have much longer to live and I needed to come here to show you how to transfer your power to another being. I want you to do what you have to, then give your power to your son for him to carrying on your family’s legacy. If you allow me to show you how to transfer you power, I believe that your son will live a strong healthy life. I was going to wait to tell you all of this, but I could sense that my time is coming close and I needed to tell you how before I died. So that when it is your time you can go in peace. You don’t have to give your son your powers now, or ever, but if you should to choose to ever give them to him I wanted you to know how. It is very simple. Make a tiny cut into your skin and repeat these words” The old man handed me a slip of paper. “then bring the blood to your sons mouth and let him drink your blood. Now I have come for what I wanted to say and I shall go now.” He said standing up to leave. I was still in shock I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

“Wait! No you don’t have to go you saved my life the least I could do is give you a warm room.” I said smiling at him.

“Thank you, but I have stayed to long now. It is my time to leave.” The old man fell to the floor and I ran to his side. His heart had stopped and he wasn’t breathing. I tried to do CRP, but he wasn’t coming back. After a couple minutes I gave up and sat there staring at his lifeless body. And then something extraordinary happened. His body started to glow and a soft colorful cloud drifted from his body. It circled me for a few seconds then drifted through my ceiling into the outside world. It was the most amazing thing I had ever seen.

I wasn’t sure what to do. I knew that he was gone, but what was I going to do. I stared at the lifeless body for an hour and then I watched as the body slowly started to fade. The body turned to dust then a gust of wind that came out of no-where swept the ashes away and he was gone. The man who had saved my life and had doomed my family was gone forever.
