Shy
“Hey, Shy, look up and smile,” I heard someone call me from the balcony. The room was full of people, so there was a lot of noise and I didn't recognize the voice. My instinct told me not to look up, but I still did it anyway. And sure enough, the moment I did, ‘SPLASH’, a water balloon fell straight onto me. It was probably Nate who tossed the balloon, but whoever it was had a good aim, because it hit me right smack on the top of my head. I was drenched.
The boys and girls around me were laughing. If this was just some ordinary day, I might not have thought the laughing was so sinister. But this was my mother's wedding day, and now I looked like I had just taken a shower with my clothes on. I always hated Nate for as long as I could remember. Nate had always been mean to me.
“Oh man, look at her, all wet,” Rick said, while one of his friends kept laughing, even after the other ones who were mean enough to laugh at me had stopped.
“My goodness guys! What have you done?” Nate said.
Nate and Rick were pretty good friends. So even though Nate said it like he was surprised, I didn't believe him. He even looked like he was concerned, but I just ignored him. He hurried toward me anyway.
“Are you okay, Shy?” he asked, even though he could tell I didn't want to talk to him.
“Why would you care if I’m okay or not? You and your friends have bullied me before, I said. He knew what I meant. I meant him and Rick because I knew they were good friends. But he just stood there pretending he was concerned.
“So why are you "trying" to act all innocent like that?" I said, sarcastically.
“I had nothing to do with this. Please, believe me, Shy.” He said it while he was pulling me toward him.
“Don’t touch me!” I yelled. I said it real firmly. The only problem was that there was still a little bit of water gradually rolling down my face, because of my wet hair. So when I spoke, some water droplets burst from my mouth, and some people started laughing again.
That really got me angry. I ran my hand across my mouth to make certain it was dry before I spoke again, and everyone could tell how angry I was, so the laughter died down in a hurry.
“You are behind this," I said, raising my hand and pointing my finger at him, like an angry Old Testament prophet.
I was right at the beginning of a really good accusation, when my friend Neil came up and said, “Hey! You guys leave her alone.” I kind of wished he hadn't because I was about to really tells Nate off.
“Aww, look, her prince charming is coming to rescue her,” said Rick sarcastically.
“Leave her alone Nate. She didn’t do anything to you,” warned Neil.
“I didn’t do anything to her,” said Nate defending himself. “It was them.”
“Yeah, like I’m gonna believe you,” replied Neil angrily. “Come on Shy,” said Neil softly at me. “Let’s go and change into something dry.” I just nodded my head. A stubborn tear formed in my eyes but I refuse to let it drop. I’m gonna show Nate that there’s nothing he could do to make me cry. I glared at Nate and he looked at me with sad eyes as if apologizing for what had happened. I ignored him and walked with Neil back to the house to change.
I always hated Nate or Nathaniel Smiths for a long as I could remember. Nate is 2 years older than me while his younger brother Neil or Daniel is same age with me but I was older by 6 months. Nate has always been mean and bullied me unlike Neil who was always nice to me. I love Neil like my own brother and I know Neil felt the same.
I grew up in the same house with them since I was 2 years old. The Smiths had employed my mom as a nanny to their two sons after my late father died in a car accident 10 years ago. He was their driver. Since mom needed some money to feed both our mouths she gladly accepted the job. The Smiths never treated my mom and I like their servant, we were more like family. We would attend all their family gatherings and during one of the gatherings my mom met my step-dad George Taylor, Mr. Smiths business partner. He was the most handsome and wonderful guy I had ever met and I was so happy when he asked me to call him dad.
Today mom is getting married and by the end of today, we will follow her new husband to Canada. I was sad to leave the Smiths’ residence but I was happy that I finally got Nate out of my sight forever.

Nate
I never hated Shy or Shiloh. I was actually jealous because she always so nice to my brother but when it comes to me, she would yell and glare. When we walked together to school she would hold my brother’s hand but when I tried to hold her hand she bites it. I had done everything to get her attention but she hated me more every day.
Today was her last day with us and I tried to make amend and be nice to her, but my friends spoiled it for me. They dropped the water balloon on her and she thought I'm involved. She doesn't me believe when I told her I was not involved in their evil plan. When she left just now, she hugged everyone except me. She didn't even look and said goodbye to me. I might never see her again but I promised myself, if we ever meet again, I will be really, really be nice to her and show her that I care.
