Chapter 13

SHY…………

I’m so glad I’ve made friend with Nate. He has been a charming friend. Cheering me up when I’m down, helping me with my assignment, waiting for me until I finished classes and taking good care of me. Well actually we’re looking out for each other. He would still tease me, which is almost every day and we would sometime argue about crazy things but I didn’t mind. I actually kind of love it when he teased me.

I’m also glad that I’m move in with him. For nearly a week now, we spent most of the time together, breakfast, lunch, dinner and after dinner we would sit together watching movies or whatever on TV. I would sometimes doze off on the sofa and when I woke up the next morning I’m already in my bed.

I finally realized what Neil said about Nate was true. I should have given Nate a chance to show his soft side and not think badly about him. Spending the whole week with him make me also realized that there’s so much about him that I didn’t know. Especially about how caring he could be and the way he’s treat me was much, much better that Mike does. Nate is amazing and any girl who has him as her boyfriend would be a very lucky girl. How I wish Mike was more like him.

“Hey Shy,” Claudia my course mate called me when I was walking to our classes.

“Hey, Claudia,” I stopped waiting for her to reach me. “What’s up?”

“Can I ask you something?” she asked grinning widely at me showing her white teeth.

Giving her a weird looked, I nodded, “Sure, shoot.”

“Hmm,” she hesitate biting her lips, “Is Nate your boyfriend?”

“Well,” I paused. Damn why am I hesitated to say ‘No, he’s not.’? Nate is not my boyfriend but I just can’t say those words. Claudia looking at me with a big questioned on her face.

I bite my lips, “He’s my friend,” I said to her instead and Claudia face glowing obviously happy with my reply.

“So, you don’t mind if I try my luck with him?” she asked grinning again.

“What do you mean?” I asked pretending I didn’t understand what she meant.

“Well, you know,” she blushed, “I was hoping to get to him to know me better.”

“Oh,” I pretend to laughed, “Sure, go ahead.”

“Great, but I need to help me,” she said giving me persuasive look, “Please?” she pleaded.

“What kind of help?” I reluctantly asked.

“Well, I’m having a party tonight and I hope you could persuade Nate to come with you. You introduce me to him and then I’ll take care of the rest,” she smiled.

“I don’t like parties,” I told her.

“I know, but please,” she whined, “Just this once Shy, please.”

I know she’s not going to stop persuading me until I agreed. Rolling my eyes I sighed, “Alright.”

She jumped and hugged me tightly, “Thanks a million, Shy. You’re the best,” and finally released me, “I’ll see you tonight with Nate. Don’t be late ok. The party is at 8.00,” she smiled and walked to her seat.

I sighed and walked to my seat slowing. Suddenly I don’t feel so good and there’s a pain in my chest. Nate is not my boyfriend but just thinking about him with other girls make me so depressed. Why do I felt this way?

My whole day that day was gloomy after that. Yeah, I felt so down and when I meet Nate at our usual place to go back together he looked at me with concerned eyes.

He immediately walked towards me, “What wrong?”

I gave him a small smile, “Nothing,” shaking my head.

“Shy, don’t lie to me,” he pressed.

“Nothing,” I insist and smiled sweetly at him, “I just can’t understand what the lecturer was explaining just now,” I lied.

“What subject?” he asked.

“Business Environment,” I lied again.

Putting his arms around my shoulders and walked with me to the car he smiled, “Don’t worry I’ll help you to understand them. It’ a small matter. You worried too much.”

I smiled, “Thanks,” kissing his cheek. He smiled again looking so sweet. Too bad he’s going to be with someone soon. Will he still treat me the same when he has a girlfriend? God, Shy you have a boyfriend yourselves. Why are you so selfish? I scolded myself. Yeah, I shouldn’t be so selfish. I should be happy for Nate.

“Shy,” called Nate waking me up from my thoughts. “Where have you been? To the moon? I’ve been calling you and opened the door like ages. What’s wrong?”

“Sorry,” I gave me an apologetic look. “I’m still thinking about it, but don’t worry. I’m taking it off my mind.” I told him pretending to be cheerful, “How about we go to a party tonight?”

He looked at me weirdly, “Whose?”

“Claudia, my course mate. She invited us to her party tonight,” I informed him. “You want to go?”

“Well, sure if you up to it,” he shrugged. “I think it will do you good. It will help to take your mind of your studies for a while.”

“Ok then,” I fake a smile and enter the car. As usual, he fastened the seat belt for me, closed the door.

I sighed, looking at him walking to the other side of the car. He is so charming. I should have given him a chance long, long time ago. If I did, I would have realised what I’ve been missing. I might not let him go but now? I think it too late. I have Mike and I couldn’t cheat on him. Could I? No I can’t.  How would I forgive myself if later Mike was heartbroken when he found that I cheat on him? No, I’m not the type of girl who would break a heart of a man who loves her.

“Shy?” Nate waving his hand in front of my face waking me up from my thoughts, “Are you ok?” he asked.

I chuckled, “I’m fine,” nodding my head. “I was just thinking,” I looked at him while he started the engine, “You are very charming guy. Why haven’t you got any girlfriend?’

He looked at me with wide eyes, “Wow, I’m so honoured,” he teased putting one hand on his chest, “Shiloh Jacob-Smith said I’m charming. Wow.”

I playfully hit his hand laughing, “Hey, don’t let me take it back.” He just laughed with me and continued driving. “You haven’t answered my questions,” I reminded him.

He looked at me smiling, “What was the question again?” he asked.

I glared at him, “Why haven’t you got any girlfriend?” I repeat.

“Who said I don’t have a girlfriend,” he mocked.

“You have?” I questioned.

“Yeah I do,” he nodded.

“Who?” I probed.

“You,” he smiled sweetly at me and my jaw drop to the ground.
