I'm pretty sure Lauren could sense my nervousness. My cheeks were flushed at this point and I couldn't manage to say anything. But, to make it even more awkward, she just stared at me. I didn't look at her, but I could feel her eyes piercing into the side of my face. I can't take this agony, I have to say something.
"Thanks, I think?"
She chuckled. "Oh trust me, you're very welcome."
And then it happened again. An uncomfortable silence. This time though, I stood up and prepared myself to just leave this area but that's when I felt a warm hand on my own, tugging me back down.
"No, stay." She said softly. Probably the most kindest I've heard her speak before.
"Why?"
"Well, why not?"
"That is probably the worst reasoning I've ever heard."
She laughed again. God I love her laugh. "I'm serious, stay."
I sat back down but a little hesitant. She still had a grip on my hand and I tried to pull away but instead she interlaced our fingers. My eyes widened and I looked down at our hands. I could already feel my hand getting sweaty as the seconds went on but she didn't pull away. She kept our fingers intertwined. She chuckled once again.
"What's so funny?" I asked a little harsher then I intended.
She loosed the grip on my hands and I slowly regretted confronting her.
"Woah, chill out. I'm not laughing at you."
"Then what are you laughing at?" I asked, glancing down at my hand which she was still holding.
"Getting self conscious I see?" She began to rub circles on my hand, sending shivers down my spine.
I've never received this kind of affection before. No ones ever called me sexy, no ones ever held my hand before besides family. This is all so new to me.
"Why don't you ever answer my questions?" I replied.
She squeezed my hand. She didn't reply immediately, almost as if she was stumbling over words.
"Camila, do you not realize that your not the only person who gets nervous?"
"What do you mean?" I asked, but already knew the answer. I may have been completely oblivious with everything else Lauren has told me tonight but this is something I understand. I'm starting to put the pieces together. I just need an absolute answer to confirm my thoughts.
She looked at me and took a deep breath. "Camila, honestly I ha-"
"Camila, come on we're leaving." My Dad yelled from the parking lot. Of course. I looked at Lauren and she looked almost hurt.
"I'm sorry, I have to go."
She sighed and released my hand. "Okay."
I stood up and began to walk away.
"See you around Camila." I heard Lauren say from behind me.
I smiled and turned around, "Bye Lauren."
I went to my parents car and sat down.
"I see you've made friends with the new girl?" My dad said.
I smiled. "I guess you could say that."
