Kylen woke up from his heavy sleep. The air was cold and dense inside the room. A gust hit his face as he noticed the window was broken. The strong ocean winds rushed in as it gave him a chill down his spine. He got up from his bed and walked to the gated door to outside. The winds inside the cylinder was much stronger. He looked down to see someone in the pool below! He tried to think of what to do he frantically looked around. Suddenly he felt someone grab his shoulder and push him over the railing. His body flopped over and fell about 6 stories till he hit water. Between the surface of he water and the cylinder was a forty foot opening. It was a cave underneath the district and nothing else. His body submerged under the water from the long fall. He falls deeper and deeper underwater. He realizes he was sinking more and more. He suddenly panicked and waved his arms down pushed the water underneath him. He swam back to the surface and gasped for air. "You ok?" A male voice said beside him. He looked to his left to see a man who seemed about seventeen bobbing in the water. He had shaggy blonde hair in a bowl cut which hung down in his face from the water. He wore what seemed to be a black shirt and jeans with rust on them. "Yeah I'm good." Kylen said as he caught his breath. They both looked up and sighed. "How do we get back up? Wait for morning?" The boy said as he looked at Kylen. Kylen looked to his right at the cave wall where the water met rocks. "There! Stay there for the night." he said as he pointed to the rocks. The two boys swam to the rocky ledge and flopped onto shore.
Kylen's eyes opened and seen the rocky ceiling hanging above. His head lifted and seen sun light pouring in from the hole of the cylinder. He looked to his right to see the boy sitting up. He looked like he was wondering about something. "Morning, lets go." Kylen said as he got up and brushed himself off. He looked behind him at the boy. The boy looked up at Kylen. "What's your name kid?" The boy asked him. "Kylen, what's yours?" The boy smiled as he got up from his rocky bed. "Oscar." Kylen smiled at him and looked at the hole in the cylinder. "Enough of introductions lets get going." Kylen said as he walked toward the water. Oscar nodded and followed him to shore.
The sunshine felt warm against his face. The water was much warmer that was under the hole. The water was murky and dirty. Kylen looked down and barely seen past his waist. "Hey! A little help?!" Oscar yelled from the water up the cylinder. His voice echoed through the hollow middle. Heads of people looked over the railing and many of them waved. "Hold tight we'll get you right out!" A mans voice yelled as many people spectated. Seconds later a rope dropped down from the lowest bridge. Oscar grabbed it and yanked on it signaling to pull up. As Oscar made his way up on the rope, Kylen looked down at the water again. He felt a rough nudge against his foot. He kicked his feet around but didn't feel anything around him. The rope splashed into the water next to him. He swam back frightened as he realized it was the rope. He pulled the rope and he was pulled the the lower bridge. He looked down and seen a large black mass underneath him. "Zegeous! Reel in faster!" A man yelled as Kylen's body moved twice the speed. He successfully made it to the bridge and he was welcomed with a large blanket. He stood upon the solid structure and looked over the railing. He caught a glimpse of the black creature in the water. It seemed serpent and long, with scales and fur lining the back spine. "What was that?!" Kylen said as he backed from the railing. Oscar looked at Kylen with a smile, "Get used to him, his name is Zegeous. He lurks in the water eating whatever is thrown in. I'm surprised we weren't killed." Oscar patted his back and walked away.
Kylen walked up the ramp to get back to Shak's floor. The stone carved path rounded the interior of the the building. He walked up and around the path, climbing at least seven flights of stairs. Meeting with Shak on the original floor, Kylen confronted Shak. "What happened?" Shak asked with a stern look. "The window was broken so I was checking to see if there was something or someone there. I seen someone in the pool and suddenly someone pushed me over the railing." Kylen looked down at his feet. "Kylen you gotta be more careful. I can't have you be running around the place at night. Your my responsibility and if you get hurt I wouldn't here the end of it." Kylen looked surprised and sad. "I almost died in there and you lecture me?!" Kylen looked at him with a strange look. "Kylen." Shak turned to him. Kylen stepped back and turned away from him. If I'm such a trouble to you then I'll just leave. I need to get back to my brother anyway." "You're leaving? Very well, make your own ship and you can." Kylen looked down and removed the blanket from his shoulders. "Then I'm off to the hanger."
