"Today is the daaaay," Mélissa almost screamed as soon as Cassie entered the building, and Cassie hit her shoulder."Don't talk about that here," she whispered, even though people were pretty far away, so they couldn't hear them, and actually didn't want to.
"I didn't say anything! Just that it is the day. Because well, it is."
"Shut up, Liss. We are here to work, not to talk about my personal life."
"You don't have a life."
"Thanks for reminding me."
"You are pretending to have a life. But you know, we talked with Ro, and--"
"Oh my God, you both need to stop talking, I swear," Cassie started to walk to the elevator, quickly followed by Mélissa.
"That's not gonna happen. So, since you throw us out of your apartment yesterday, we talked about Neyssie--"
"There is no Neyssie, guys."
"Stop interrupting me! We talked about Neyssie and we do ship it so you should stop pretending to date and actually date for real," Mélissa said calmly, and the two girls got in the elevator. For once, they were completely alone in it, which meant that the conversation could keep going.
"Sure, let me call him to tell him that you guys ship it, I'm sure he will think that it's a pretty valid reason to do so!"
"C'mon, Cass. You said several times that he's hot to me while he said to his sister that you are cute. And he said that he was dating you to his family. I mean, that's not something you say if you can't see yourself actually dating the person."
"He just said that out-of-the-blue because his sister was probably teasing me! You need to stop over-analyzing everything."
"I don't have any other choice because you live in a lie."
"This conversation is over and i mean it. Forget that 'neyssie' thing and focus on your new article instead."
"Written already. Don't tell me that you didn't find a subject yet."
"Written already as well," Cassie smiled, using her best friend's words. "I just need to proofread."
The elevator's door opened on the 5th floor, and even though Mélissa worked on the 8th floor, she followed her best friends. No way that this conversation was over.
"Cassie the journalist is back. What did you write about?"
"The fact that I have Christmas-decorated my apartment for the first time."
"Did you-"
"I didn't mention why or how or anything of the sort. I'm not talking about N in my articles."
"N? What are we, spies?"
"Totally," Cassie nodded, entering the staff room where was the coffee machine that was making amazing hot chocolates. Too bad that she couldn't come here with Neymar and that they had to drink disgusting drinks instead.
"Okay, I need to go to work," Mélissa sighed. "But we'll talk during lunch break, alright?"
"Sure," Cassie answered.
Why Mélissa was her best friend in the first place?
_
Even though Mélissa had warned her that they will keep talking about this whole ship this during lunch break, they didn't. They weren't supposed to show their articles to each other once they were published, but Mélissa needed her opinion on it, which surprised Cassie.
"You want my opinion? Did you ask Angelina to read it?"
"I didn't. I want your opinion on it first."
"Okay," Cassie frowned.
Mélissa smiled before taking a sheet of paper out of her bag and handing it to her best friend.
"Don't read it now. Please."
"Are you sure that everything's alright?" Cassie couldn't help but ask, slightly worried. It was not Mélissa's type to be that secretive.
"I'm fine, really. We'll...talk about it later. Should we go back?"
_
Cassie spent the whole afternoon thinking about that mysterious article that she couldn't read until she was peacefully sat on her couch--something that wasn't happening anytime soon.
She spent the afternoon proofreading her new article before sending it to Angelina, and she was supposed to meet her in her office before being freed for the day.
Neymar's family was probably already here: their plane landed at 4 pm. Cassie looked at the window. It was already pitch black outside.
When she looked at the time, it was 4:52pm already. She got up and start to walk to Angelina's office. The door was opened, and she
Smiled when she saw Cassie.
"Come in and sit down!" she said, and she didn't even wait to keep talking, "I really like your article, once again you're talking a bit more about yourself and even though it's absolutely normal to hide things for the reader-having a personal life is important and they don't need to know everything about you, me or anyone else--I like the fact that you are opening yourself a bit more this month."
"Thanks, Angelina," she smiled, and her boss was about to add something when a piercing alarm rang out She looked at Angelina, panicked.
"Shelter In-Place Warning. No one leave the building until further notice."
Amazing. Absolutely perfect.
Neymar and she didn't really talk about the meeting with his parents, but it was clear for the both of them that it was happening today. She was his girlfriend and she was living next door, they were supposed to see each other every day, right?
Right. But she was apparently stuck at the office for God knows how long. And she couldn't help but feel guilty. Neymar's family was excited to meet her, and she was going to make a bad first impression.
What a good girlfriend you are, not even on time to meet your in-laws.
"C'mon guys, everyone in the staff room!" Angelina yelled, and Cassie sighed.
What a night.
