The Gift To Sing

Sometimes the mist overhangs my past,
And blackening clouds about me cling;
But, oh, I have a magic way
To turn the gloom to cheerful day —
I softly sing.

Lives are all filled with misery
Some much worse than other things
But if inside you lives a tune
You better get it out there soon
'Cause all that we need is to sing

And if the way grows darker still,
Shadowed by Sorrow's somber wing,
With glad defiance in my throat,
I pierce the darkness with a note,
And sing, and sing, and sing

All that we want is some merriness and cheer
A life with all the colors of spring
So give your life some music
And then you must use it
To sing and sing

I brood not over the broken past,
Nor dread whatever time may bring;
No nights are dark, no days are long,
While in my heart there swells a song,
And I can sing.

So now the mist clears and I can see my path
The shadows are gone and now there's light
So I can sing my song
And you can sing along
Sing it into the night

Song written by me and a friend for a school project
