Richie sat up on her childhood bed and checked the time on her phone. 10:23 am. She quickly went to the bathroom to brush her teeth and take her bath.

She towel dried her hair and pulled it up in a bun, put on a pair of her childhood shorts–which was now shorter and a crop top before heading downstairs.

She saw her mom in the kitchen, wearing the sleep clothes she'd been wearing for many years. Richie shook her head and hugged her mother from behind.

"Morning mom."

Her mother, Adedoyin smiled. "Morning Temi, bawo ni?"

She smiled at the name Temi, that's her Nigerian name and the name her mother calls her. Her mother is a Nigerian, hence Richard's tan skin.

"I'm fine, what are you cooking?" She peered over her mom's shoulder to check what she was cooking.

"Asaro and Moi Moi " Richie smiles. Asaro was her best childhood food–it still was. Just that she doesn't eat it often, only when Sally cooks it on rare occasions.

It's a Nigerian food of yam pottage, cooked with stew, dried fish of sorts with small chopped meats and garnished with vegetables. While Moi Moi is made by grinding beans and pepper then mixed with oil, mashed fish, sliced eggs, seasonings and salt then poured into containers and baked.

Her mother placed the dishes in her front when she was done and Richie dug in without wasting time. Her father, Victor walked in. He is a white man, tall with brown hair and green eyes, Richard had always been jealous of his green eyes but she had to take her mom's black one, though hers weren't very dark like her mother's.

"Why is that spider so big?" Victor pointed to a wall and Richie looked at it.

"But there isn't any sp-" she turned to find a big chunk of her Moi Moi gone. "Ole!"  she shrieked and her parents burst into laughter.

I forgot to tell that Richard's mom is a Nigerian but we got there anyways.

I took my time to explain the foods but other words like -

"bawo ni" means how are you.

"Ole" means thief.
