Mothers pov

"Carrie I really know where you were, but I'm gonna need to get a statement from you. Also, make sure it's believable "

"What the hell do you mean a 'Statement'?! You want me to lie, don't you?" I glared at him.

"Well I'm not gonna lie, so you can write this down on your fucking notepad! I was busy fucking you while my daughter was almost killed by her father..my husband." I was almost in tears. He looked down at me and glared.

"You know people can't know that. This town is a small town, Carrie. If people found out the sheriff was having an affair with someone like yo-"

"What the hell do you mean someone like me!?" He looked back at the two officers that were with him. They were talking to Lucy, probably trying to calm her down. He looked back at me, visibly angry and stressed. "Your husband was the town's drunk, everyone knew it. Now be quieter and make up something to tell me."

"No, I won't lie. Not anymore." He sighed, closing his eyes and rubbing his temple.

"Carrie, I swear to god. Make up some fucking lie. I have a wife and kids! I don't need any of them knowing what I do or did." he brought out a pen and notepad. "Now Mrs. Greene, may I have a statement from you." I was trying my hardest not to cry. I've lied to my family too much but here I am lying once again.

"It all happened so fast. I was coming home from the supermarket, I wanted to get some things for dinner a-"

"What is the name of the supermarket you were at?"

" It was at the family-run store. I think the name is Co-Op"

He kept writing down things, he would keep writing. It was making me nervous. Why should I be nervous it's not like what I did was wrong, was it? She could have died if I were any longer. It's all my- "Ma'am?" the officer was waving his hand in my face, "o-oh sorry, what was the question?"

"Finish your statement"

"I came home and the front door was wide open. I looked around the whole house and saw no one. A bottle of alcohol was smashed-"

"Does your husband drink often?" I looked up at him and glared, "you damn well know the answer to that."

He chuckled, "what's so funny Jason! You think that I enjoyed getting beaten and watching my child get locked in a room?"

"You weren't there most of the time anyway, probably off fucking some other man. Why did he start drinking? Was it because of you? Did he find out your dirty little secrets about what you would do instead of going to work? Now answer the damn question." I was in tears. It is my fault.

"Yes."

"How often?"

"At least once a day." When can this conversation end? I need to get out of here.

"Did he harm you or your child in any way?" It's all my fault.

"Yes, but only me. He would lock her in any room closest to him" Where can I go? With my mother? Will she even let me after what happened?

"Okay, have you ever called the police about this or told anyone?"

"No, I was too afraid of what he would do." It was silent for a minute while he wrote down a few more things. "May I speak with Lucy now?" I looked over at Lucy who was getting along with the other two officers. "..yes" I hesitated for a moment. He walked over to her while I waited on the porch of our house. Trying to calm myself down. "This can't be happening" I whispered.

Lucy pov

"Oh, so you love to swim! I used to be on the swim team when I was in school." I gasped and looked up at her

"R-Really! We have a small swim team in my school but mama won't let me join it."

The nice female officer smiled and looked down at me "and why is that?" before I had a chance to answer, the really tall and scary officer interrupted the conversation. "Hey, is it alright if I speak to her for a minute?"

"Oh, yea! We can talk later Lucy!" she waves and walks away with the other female officer that was with us. I bite the inside of my cheek, trying not to look up at him. He kneeled down to my height and looked me straight in the eyes. "Lucy." I gripped the blanket that was around my me and looked up at him. Why is this man so scary? There's just something about him I don't like. "Y-Yes Sir?" He smiled

"Can you please explain to me what happened. In the best detail, you can provide." I stared at him for a second. "Ah! Sorry, those words may have been too big for you. Well just tell me what happened after your mother left the store." Does he think I'm dumb?

"I-I was in my room most of the time. But then I wanted to go to the beach for a swim. I-I walked downstairs and saw him sitting in the chair watching Tv, he was drinking again. I-I don't know what happened b-but he s-started screaming at m-me. H-He ran a-and-" I choked on my tears and started sobbing. "That's enough you don't have to finish. Carrie!" He calls for my mother. My mom rushes towards me and picks me up. I couldn't hear what they were talking about. I didn't want to hear it anyway. Where did it ever go wrong? Why did he hate us so badly?

Flashback

3rd person

"Sweetie! We should be heading out now!"

"Okay okay! I had to get Lulu dressed." Carrie smiled and looked up at her husband. She had a small 3-year-old Lucy in her arms. He chuckles and kisses Lucy's forehead, grabbing the bag Carrie was carrying. "Okay, well are you ready now? The guys from work are down there already." His eyes were a bright blue and shined with such joy and love for his family. Carrie laughs and kisses her husband's cheek, "Yes dear, I'm ready." They all load up their stuff into the car and drive down the road to the beach. They reach the beach. There wasn't a cloud in the sky, it was a nice sunny day with a cool breeze. Carrie and her husband climb out of the car, they look at each other and smile. Carrie opens the back door of the car and unbuckles Lucy from her car seat while her husband opens the trunk getting their things. "Mama!" Lucy cries out. "I know sweetie. We can go play in the water in a little." Lucy wines and Hides her face in her mother neck.

"I'm gonna head down to the beach. Do you want me to take anything?"

"No, I'm fine"

Carrie walks down the small parking lot and she takes off her sandals as soon as she gets to the sand. "Mama!" Lucy cries out again. Her mother chuckles "alright alright" Her mother sets her down and Lucy starts walking slowly towards the shore with her mother. Near the shore of the beach were her husband's coworkers. They had beach towels all set out, umbrellas, some kids toys for their children, and each of them had a cooler filled with various kind of drinks. Lucy saw her friends so she let go of her mother's hand, running towards them the best she could.

End of flashback

Lucy PoV

"Hi, Mother."

"Y-Yes."

"I-I'm gonna need a place to stay for a while, with Lucy"

"Yes. he died"

"No that's not the reason"

"I just need a fresh start, Mother."

I looked out the window of the car. Grandma? We don't see her that often. My mom continued to talk to her for a while and finally hung up the phone. "Mama?" My mother looked at me in the rearview mirror. "Yes, sweetie?"

"Are we going to visit grandma?" She looks at me sadly, then returns her eyes to the road. "No, we are going to be living with her for a while."

"What about my friends, Mama! You said that this year if I do good I can be one the swim team!" "Lucy, don't worry about those things for now. We just need to get out of here, alright. Now go color in your coloring book." I stared at her in the mirror for awhile then looked down at my cars (yes cars the movie Lightning McQueen bitch cc:) coloring book and picked up my crayon box.
