SevenMaggie successfully used the ladder as a bridge to the next rooftop. She was the first one to cross the bridge. The ladder was not strong enough to hold two people crossing at the same time.
"Flint, go ahead," April said and pushed Flint towards the ladder.
"I'm not leaving you, April," Flint said.
"Flint, there is no time. Go!" April insisted.
"How about you? I can't leave you." Flint held April's hand. She looked at her brother and touched his face.
"We'll see each other later, okay? You just have to cross the bridge. I'll follow. Hmmm? Okay?" A tear fell from Flint's eye. His sister was saying words as if it was the last thing she'll ever do. She looked at his face and wiped the tear from his eye.
"Go," April said. Flint just nodded. April turned her back on Flint. Flint wants to help April, but he can't. Flint walked towards the bridge. Maggie was waiting for him on the other side. He took one look at April before crossing the bridge. April faced the corpses who were able to destroy the door. They were coming her way now. Jerry was shooting them one by one in the head. One by one, the corpse fell to the ground.
"Why are there so many of them?" Jerry aimed his gun at the corpses. April was also desperately shooting the corpse in the head. She was just like having her daily routine. She would always train at her house just before the apocalypse happened. She turned to look at Flint, who just reached the other side. April managed to smile. She reloaded her gun and faced more corpses. Their number was increasing.
"April!" Flint shouted from the other side. "Come! Cross the bridge now!"
April just looked at Jerry, standing side by side with her. She gave him an encouraging look. Jerry stared at her.
"Go," Jerry said.
"No, you go first. I'll stop them for the time being. Go! Now!" April focused her attention on the corpses. "But--"
"I said go! Don't make me change my mind, or else." Jerry gave her a ridiculous look. April glared at him. Jerry didn't follow what April said, which made her angry. April got no choice but to take it seriously.
"I told you, Go!" She shouted at Jerry and aimed her gun at him.
"No, April. I'm not leaving you." Jerry held April's and pulled her. But she took her hand back. Jerry looked at her, but she pushed him toward the rooftop's edge. She aimed her gun again at Jerry.
"If you don't do it as I say, I have no choice but to pull this trigger."
"April," Jerry muttered.
"I said go! Go!" She shouted. She aimed the gun at the sky and pulled the trigger.
Bang!
"That's a warning, Jerry." Jerry couldn't do anything. He took a step towards the edge of the roof. He looked at April worriedly. He felt a lump in his throat and swallowed it.
"April? Hey! What are you doing?" Flint shouted from the other side.
"Get on the bridge, now!"Jerry looked at Flint and took a step onto the bridge. Flint got furious upon seeing his sister did not follow him. Flint wanted to cross the bridge, but Maggie stopped him.
"Don't. Don't do it, Flint. Please don't." Maggie pulled Flint back.
"I can't leave my sister, Maggie."
"She'll cross. After Jerry, she will." Maggie looked at Flint as if pleading with him to believe her. She held his face and looked him in the eye. A tear fell from Flint's eye.
