"Well, we can rest at ease. I started my period." Shana said, walking into her brother's room.
He looked at her from his computer and frowned.
"What?"
"I'm not pregnant. I just started my period."
"That's great to know?" he said with a look.
Shana made a face at him and walked out of the room. She sighed of relief at the fact she wasn't pregnant. Whatever had possessed her to have her first time unprotected was beyond her. She looked out the window toward Travis' house and thought she might want to tell him that she wasn't pregnant so he could set his mind at ease as well. Maybe that was why he hadn't answered any of her calls...
Actually, now that she thought about it, she hadn't seen him at school the past week. She should probably go and check on him to make sure he was alright, considering she did have sex with him and Craig was sure to find out soon enough. She grabbed her coat and decided to pay him a visit and tell him the good news.
She knocked on the door and Ruth answered the door.
"Hello, Shana. What brings you over?" she asked, looking Shana up and down.
"I'm sure Travis told you." She said with a look at the older woman.
"Deary, even if he didn't, I can tell." She said with a sardonic smile. "Why are you here?"
"I just came to talk to Travis. Is he in? I haven't noticed him at school and I just want to make sure he's okay."
"He's been under the weather, the flu or something. I don't think it's best for you to talk to him right now."
"Well, the message I have for him is not one I really would want told to him as word of mouth. It's a bit private." She said in a slight whisper.
Ruth nodded slowly. "Ah, I see. Let me go see if he's okay for a visitor."
She motioned for Shana to come in and then headed up the stairs.****************
Ruth knocked on Travis door and opened it a crack. The poor boy was lying in bed looking like he would vomit if he moved his eyes only a little and had his hand on his distended stomach. Ruth walked in and touched his face lovingly as he opened his eyes slightly.
"How you feeling?"
"Thirsty and nauseated." He said, his voice sounding whiny and sick but he didn't care anymore.
Ruth smiled sadly at him and touched his head. He seemed to be running a small fever but she'd deal with that later.
"Shana's here."
"Okay?"
"She needs to talk to you."
Travis scoffed. "Mom, look at me! I'm sick as hell and pregnant. I don't think it's a good time."
"I wouldn't be pressing this issue if it weren't for her message being of the utmost importance."
"Take a message."
"Seems to be a private message."
Travis got the hint but the nausea he'd been trying to keep at bay was waving through him and he thought if he moved another muscle he would vomit like The Exorcist or something.
"Whatever..."
"Here, cover yourself up and just listen to what she has to say. I'll make sure she doesn't stay in here long."
Travis nodded a little bit as Ruth went back to get Shana.
Ruth motioned for Shana to come up the stairs and met her at the top.
"He's not feeling well at all but I figured it was of the utmost importance."
"Is he going to be okay? I mean, do I need to get him something?"
"No, it's just a really bad case of the flu. Just be pretty quick with your news; he is trying to get to sleep."
Shana nodded and Ruth opened the door. Shana gasped and went to his side quickly.
"Oh my god, Travis, you look horrible! Are you okay?"
Travis nodded ever so slightly. "I should be fine sometime after... later... What's this news?"
Shana cleared her throat. "I was just coming over to tell you that I thought you should know... uh... well, that um... I'm not pregnant."
Travis wanted to just laugh in her face for the irony of the situation but the thought of laughing and jarring his body made him refrain. He just smiled softly.
"That's good then. It probably was not the best idea to do it for the first time without protection..."
"No... I also wanted to tell you that it was the best thing I'd ever felt in my life. I don't think anyone could do the things you did to me." She said with a soft blush.
Travis smirked. "Maybe we'll do it again sometime."
The look of surprise on Shana's face caused him to laugh and he regretted it the moment it happened. He felt the blood drain from his face and groaned loudly, putting his hand over his stomach and turning over to try and ring the small trashcan that was at his bed. He luckily got it in and Shana figured it was time for her to leave and waited for him to lay back down before she left.
"I'll leave you alone now... Um, I hope you feel better."
"Yeah..."
She walked out and went back home.
Once she was gone, Travis threw his hand over his forehead in misery and uncovered his stomach. It felt weird having the sheets touching it. Ruth walked in and moved his hand to touch his forehead.
"I'll get you some aspirin and take your temperature."
She took the temperature and gave him some baby aspirin, putting one more in the mix to help him sleep.
"I know you're pretty susceptible to aspirin so I'm giving you some baby aspirin and one more so you can get a good night's sleep."
"What if you kill me?"
"I doubt that will happen, Travis. You've taken Ibuprofen and that's more potent than this. Plus, they're chewable."
Travis took them and drank down a glass of water with it. Ruth sat beside him and rubbed his face lovingly as he stared at her, never blinking. Tears suddenly formed in his eyes and they slowly ran down his cheek onto Ruth's hand.
"Travis?"
"Why are you here?" he whispered thickly, trying not to cry anymore. "Why didn't you throw me away?"
Ruth smiled at him and ran her fingers through his hair.
"Because you're my son and I love you. Why would I throw away a perfectly wonderful child?"
"You know I'm not wonderful."
"You're a bit of a handful and sometimes stubborn but you'll always be wonderful. Every child is wonderful if a mother looks at them as such. There are things I don't like and don't approve of you but it doesn't change the way I love you."
"I mean this stuff. I'm a pregnant guy, Mom. How can you handle this? I'm not even human and... and..."
Ruth laughed softly. "Sweetie, I think you're hormonal and taking things a little too deeply. We knew this would happen, Josh and I, which is why I told you if you had the urge to have sex, make sure it was with protection. I knew you'd be a man and have urges but I didn't want your heart to be broken in the process. But things happened the way they did and now we're here. I'll do everything I can to make sure no harm comes to you."
"Okay." He whispered.
"Get some sleep. We'll have to figure out a way for you to not be bedridden and yet hide your belly..."
"Fun..." he said as he went to sleep.
