Jake sets me down and I stand next to him staring into the water. There is something down there, shining in the bright sun, but I'm not sure what it is. "Time to go swimming!" Yells Jacob, as he picks me up again and I start to laugh, and he throws me in. I get to the surface, pretending I'm hurt, and reach out for his hand. His face looks concerning, he grabs my hand, and I pull him in. We're having a great time, splashing each other and swimming, until I remember what we're here for.
"We need to get that shiny thing, it might be the key!" I look down. The shine coming from way at the bottom. It's going to be tough to get there, but we can do it. I take a big gulp of air, and head under. I open my eyes and see it. It looks like a little metal box, so I reach out and grab it. Once I get it, I push my feet off the bottom and hurry back up, I can feel the air coming right out of my lungs. I reach the surface and swim to land. When I get there, Jacob is helping me out and grabbing for the box."It's a small little box, with a handle. "Open it, open it." I say, smiling. He grabs the handle and lifts the box open.
I look up at him, my smiling suddenly fading away. All that is inside, is nothing. There. Is. Nothing. I am so disappointed. Why did mom lie? I start to hyperventilate. "We, we have to find it! It must be in there somewhere!" I stand up to get back in the water, and Jacob grabs my arm. "Ivy, we've tried all we can."
I don't care what he says. We've come this far, I am not stopping now. I jump into the water and head over to the rocks. I dive down, and get deeper and deeper. Until I see a cave, and go in. At the top of the cave there is air, so I rush up to it, so I can get my breath back. And then I see it, land! I grip my hands on the edge of the rock, and with all my strength push myself onto it. I look around, noticing all the old artwork. There's handprints and little drawings. This is a great discover! I think, and walk around more. Then I see it. The piece of gold in the corner of one of the caves. I run over and pick it up, "Would you look at that." I say out loud to no one in particular. It's the key.
