Cursed One

The Kingdom of Shadows was once a happy and loving place. Filled with joy and caring people. The happiness only doubled when the King and Queen had a beautiful baby girl, Maya. For 20 years after things continued to be joyful until Princess Maya's twenty first birthday. The castle's sorcerer and King's best friend asked for her hand in marriage. She refused and in a fit of rage he cursed her, turning her into a beast by day and human by night. In fear and despair the King and Queen turned their only child away. The King and Queen, in their despair, told Damien, the evil sorcerer who cursed their daughter without their knowledge, to rule he kingdom while they grieve. He accepted and was a horrible ruler. He's cruel and filled with greed. He then murdered the King and Queen in cold blood to keep ruling the Kingdom. Maya desperately searches for her mate to break the curse and win back her kingdom and restore the Kingdom of Shadows to its former glory.

Kelly's POV

Everyone in the crowd gasps and sighs sadly. The beast has just once again requested another girl. I look over at my worried parents. They hold me close. They know and I know that if the beast does not stop requesting girls, it's only a matter of time before I'm picked. My parents and I value every second we have together.

Everyone leaves from the village gathering and go about their lives, pretending nothing is happening. My parents and I get things from the market and return home. As it is getting late, when I get home I wash and prepare for bed. I brush and braid my long, dark brown, curly hair and change into my long blue nightgown.

I spend some time with my parents before retiring to bed.

The next morning...

I awaken by a banging on the front door of our small cottage. I sit up with a start and run out to the hall where my mother is standing looking as fearful as I feel. My father makes his way to the door and just as he gets to it, it opens and the village guards barge in. I'm instantly grabbed and dragged out and pushed into a carriage.

As the carriage drives off I hear my mother and fathers desperate cries. I curl in a ball as they drive me away and sobs rip through my body.

After what feels like hours, the carriage suddenly stops and I'm pulled out of it. I see I'm on the cliff. I pray to The Lord that this is not what I am thinking. They drag me over to the giant oak at the edge and securely bind me to it and depart. Leaving me alone.

Judging by the position of the sun it will be midday soon. I struggle against my restraints , trying to break free before the beast comes.

Alas before I am able to free myself I hear a deafening roar in the sky and look up to see giant black dragon with with glowing red eyes, steam puffing out of it's nose and razor sharp teeth and claws. as it roars fire pours out of its mouth. It spots me and flys down towards me. I do the only thing I can think if. I scream.
