Jungkook swallowed, but it was like his throat had dried up, clenching closed and preventing anything from passing through. Gross. He couldn't take his eyes off Jimin, who seemed to be too distressed to peel his eyes away from Jungkook. They only stopped intensely staring at each other once Hoseok started talking.

"Nam...joon?" He was wide-eyed, blinking at the tall male who was still being embraced by a thoroughly confused Seokjin.

"Oh, Hoseok... nice to see you again...!" Namjoon and Hoseok both chuckled awkwardly. "Five years, right?" The other male nodded.

"Yeah, it's been a pretty long time." Hoseok trailed off, leaving them awkwardly standing in the doorway, everyone else giving them puzzled looks.

Jimin finally broke the silence with a shaky, abnormally high-pitched voice.

"So you guys know each other already?" Both of them nodded.

"High school... acquaintances." Hoseok said with a small smile. He turned back to Namjoon. "Seems like you found someone good. Congrats." The taller momentarily stepped away from Seokjin so that they could awkwardly side-hug each other.

"Thanks." Namjoon mumbled. The hallway went silent again and Seokjin coughed, putting a smile on his face.

"Why don't we talk inside instead of standing out here? I made food." Jimin looked away from where his eyes had been flickering back and forth between Jungkook and Hoseok with a weak smile on his face and nodded, casually looping an arm around Hoseok's. He tried to ignore the seemingly hurt expression on Jungkook's face.

The tense atmosphere more or less relaxed once the group of six were inside the house, conversation only suffering once in a while. Jimin hovered by Hoseok's side, talking to Taehyung, and occasionally with Namjoon as well. Jungkook seemed a little put off, and left halfway through with just a small tap to his boyfriend's shoulder. He made his way to the kitchen, where Seokjin was finishing plating the food, the younger trying to ignore the stares practically penetrating the back of his skull.

Seokjin could tell it was Jungkook approaching him, an ominous cloud of emotions hanging over his head. He didn't look up from the japchae, focusing on the noodles.

"Before you say anything, no, I didn't know Jimin was going to be here. Namjoon invited him. ...and he doesn't know." Jungkook's tough exterior deflated like a balloon with a leak. The younger sighed, walked up behind Seokjin, and placed his forehead on his older friend's back. The older took off his plastic gloves and turned around slowly to give him a hug, almost entirely enveloping him. "Jungkook, cheer up, you're here to patch things over and have fun, right?" Seokjin decided not to specify anything with names, speaking up after some thought.

"Hyung I literally can't, my boyfriend and ex-boyfriend are in the same room. They're friends, and I've never told Tae about..." Jungkook swallowed. His throat was parched again. "Jimin-hyung." Jungkook told himself he didn't know why he felt so bitter.

"Well, because this would totally be the right time to introduce your ex to your boyfriend." Seokjin snorted without sympathy and grabbed the plates of food. He paused in thought. "Don't do anything stupid." Seokjin looked directly at Jungkook.

"I know." He replied, grimacing. The older let himself give a small smile.

"Good, now help me with the food." Jungkook rolled his eyes but cracked a smile, reaching for the plates Seokjin was pointing at.

The two walked out to the dining table, where some dishes were already set and waiting. Seokjin allowed himself a brief moment to appreciate his handiwork, then stepped back, calling everyone to the table.
