"But Harry!"
"No, Louis!" Harry snapped, fingers going through his hair impatiently. "Do you want to go over my knee? On my birthday? Come on, Lou. I didn't want to argue about this again," Harry tried.
Louis sighed but nodded. "Fine. I won't talk about it anymore," he said stubbornly.
Harry groaned, "Louis you know that's not what I mean. I mean right now is not a good time to talk about this! We've tried before and it doesn't work out, what will change? Please explain that to me? I leave for tour in 4 months, you have to be back to the studio in 2. We come back to London for two weeks and you're already arguing to stay for this! We would do fine in Paris with our big house and lovely yard. It would be fine!"
Louis knew Harry was right. It would be fine. But fine wasn't enough.
"Daddy!" Louis whined. "It has to be amazing. London is amazing-"
"So is Paris! It's our place, Lou. Do you really want to move all the way to London? Really?"
"If it means our child will be safe, then yes!"
Harry wanted so badly to rip Louis over his lap. He took a deep breath. "Louis. Baby. I didn't bring you to London to argue with you about moving here. Frankly, I don't want to live in London. Paris. Paris is fine. It's safe. We're not even considering children right this second, love, there's no reason to rush! We just got married 2 years ago. Don't you want to enjoy having sex on the kitchen table without cheerios stuck to your ass?"
"No," Louis' eyes welled with tears. His voice was getting weaker. "I just want a baby; please let me have a baby," Louis begged.
Harry sighed. He wanted to agree but knew now wasn't the time. With the third new studio opening, the tour coming up, having a child wasn't in the next years plan. Neither of them would have time: Harry was protecting them.
"No. Don't ask again or you'll be in isolation for the rest of the night," Harry demanded. He couldn't ignore Louis' loud sob breaking from his lips. Harry wanted badly to cuddle the boy and promise him they would have a baby soon but he couldn't ensure that. "Come on, Louis," Harry said, stern. Louis brokenly stood, eyes sad, dripping tears.
Harry ignored it and grabbed the boys hand to descend the stairs. Their family was downstairs waiting for them, food and cake set up at the table. The doors were open to allow the cool air in. Harry tried to smile fakely. "Thank you all so much for coming. I can't believe I'm 30."
Niall and Liam made old people jokes, then quit it when Harry mentioned their child would be graduating soon making them seem much older.
The mention of Griffin pulled the boy away from his phone. "What?" His voice was thick and deep. He'd developed a sort of rugged aura over the years. Everyone laughed at his cluelessness making him smile and shake his head. Liam and Niall pulled him in for a hug protectively. He shook away from it.
Harry blew out the candles, thanked everyone and let Louis cut the cake. He gave small "your welcome"s to everyone who took a slice and thanked him. The second the last person took the last piece, Louis escaped upstairs, leaving Harry talking to his friends obnoxiously.
Louis went straight to his journal on his nightstand. He cried as he looked at the sweet boys picture in glued onto the page expressing his love for the boy in the orphanage. "Please," Louis whisper chanted, his tears straining his words.
"Louis!" He heard Harry holler. Trying not to get into trouble, Louis scrambled to put away the book and head downstairs. Everyone was staring at him as he descended.
"What's going on?" he questioned, very confused.
Harry stood, a hand on his hip and papers in his other hand. "What are these?" Harry snapped.
Louis suddenly remembered. He had gotten Harry adoption papers for his birthday because Harry wanted a child only 2 months ago. So much had changed since then, Louis had completely forgotten.
He scrambled to get to Harry. "I'm so sorry," he cried out, snatching the papers from the taller males hand, holding them tightly to his chest. "I'm so sorry," he repeated. "I put them together months ago, I'm so sorry," Louis sobbed.
Harry sighed but nodded understandingly. "It's okay, Lou," Harry pulled Louis into his chest, hugging him tightly. He kissed the top of his feathery hair and tried to comfort him as Louis sobbed into his chest. The guests looked on sadly, clearly disappointed.
Both Anne and Johanna stared Harry down, glaring at the boys tall figure, shaking their heads when they finally met his eyes. Both women turned away from Harry's sad eyes and ignored the boy.
"I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to mention it again, please don't punish me," Louis begged once more. Harry kissed his fear away softly.
Harry thought for a split second.
"Let's adopt a baby," he whispered.
