THE SAME NIGHT OF THE DANCE.

"hey benny." alexis approached the boy, her hands cupping together behind her back.

benny stood up swiftly without a second look, his eyes darting towards the attire alexis had on. she had changed into a long-sleeved sweater with a black off the shoulder top covering it. he smiled, she had a cool style. she was cool.

"uh, hey," he replied softly, scratching the back of his neck. "you look.. beautiful. like – like always! you always look beautiful, but–"

alexis cut him off with a chuckle, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear before looking at him again, "i know, dork. i think it's just a vampire thing."

"are you kidding?" benny exclaimed, "you were always stunning! i was just too stupid to notice it before. too stupid to even realize my feelings for you."

alexis stepped forward to him, taking his hands gently in hers and rubbing the knuckles of his hands with her thumbs softly. "thanks. i, uh," she paused, biting her lip nervously, "still up for that dance?"

without another pause, he reached his arms around her waist, pulling her closer. her head rose in surprise before her lips curved into a small smile, her arms rising to curl around benny's neck. she looked into his eyes, a crumbled smile on her lips.

the two danced slowly to silence and the bright stars above them, light crickets making noises from the bushes.

"uh, hey lex?"

her ears perked up, her eyebrows shifting in confusion. "yeah?"

"did you mean what you said? when jesse asked.. well, if i was your boyfriend."

"i mean, obviously. isn't that clear now?" she chuckled at the boy.

"i-i was just making sure, alright?"

she giggled once again. she held her breath for a second, right before she flew forward and held him closely. "i love you."

his arms hugged her back, a soft smile on his face. "i love you too."

"can we.." she slowly pulled back. "when i get back, benny.. can we go out?"

he chuckled at the question. what a weird way to put it. "of course."

"and by the way," she said, taking a bracelet from her hand and sliding it onto his. she smiled. "it means a lot to me. keep it safe for me. i don't know when i'm coming back so this will be my substitute until then."

"i will, but," he paused for a second, looking her in the idea. "nothing can replace you."

the two stood in silence before the girl stood on her toes so abruptly, reaching forward just to connect their lips for a few seconds.

and they comfortably stayed in the others arms.

TODAY.

"of course i'm glad she's back, but i don't know, she seemed different," ethan said, reaching inside his locker when benny swayed his hand towards it, making something appear from thin air. "okay, come on, cut it out," ethan sighed.

"i was just testing something. i was trying to summon chicks, but then..." benny went on, pulling out a literal baby chick from benny's locker. "awe."

"wow, just focus from now on, benny. i'm worried about her," ethan said, rambling on about sarah. sure, benny was also slightly concerned about sarah, but he'd be lying to say he wasn't worried about alexis just even a bit more.
