After about an hour my mom is walking out to the car with a toasted slice of bread hanging out of her mouth and her hair looked as if a tornado went through it. Her eyes have the purple bags around her duller gray eyes. I've never seen the sparkle in them, so I choose to ignore the emotionless black holes.

She steps in the driver seat and drops everything in the back. She sits forward and lets out a long and stressed sigh, closing her eyes in the process, and also dropping the toast into her lap.

"Why'd you have to press charges mom? I asked you not too, we could be having a nice lunch right now like we used to when I was little." I ask with a little annoyance dripping from my words. When I was younger my mom took me out for brunch or lunch every single Thursday. We used to be so close, she was a lawyer then too, not as much popular but she would always put time away from work just for me.

And I used to love that.

But now life is different, she always has her schedule full and she is always away from the house. me being much older now, I have no one home with me. This was the main reason for all of this, but I don't want to go into detail.

"If I didn't press charges I would look as a fool." She says through her teeth.

"Yeah, we wouldn't want that." I say sarcastically, she always cared for her job, she didn't even take a break from work when the tradegy happened! She kept working, leaving matters to the F.B.I and not minding to answer any calls.

"This job pays for everything you got, a million and one kids would want your life with a snap!" she retorts back.

"That job is taking everything I need away from me!" I raise my voice slightly "if it wasn't for your stupid lawyering I would have a happy life! You know how much I hate how you're famous?! A lot!" I cross my arms and slide into my seat. Huffing and looking out the window so I don't punch anything.

I always liked the outdoors although I never went out. I could lay on the grass for hours just listening and looking to the sky. That's where I found my peace. Near my house is a little patch of woods about an mile away. I would always run there  when I was stressed or plan out bored. It gave me a nice walk and cooling down. The birds always seemed to be chirping and happy when I wasn't.

"Hunny, can we just get through the day?" My mom says quietly tone.

"I don't know, can we?" I huff

"Yes we can." She grabs my hand and holds it and starts to sing a "My little sunshine"

"Mom. I'm not 6... I'm 14..."

Mom looks over at me and gives me a weak smile "I know Dasi, I just have a hard time realizing that my baby is all grown up."

I continue staring out the window, if only she knew how I felt. I'm not the little girl who used to be always smiling and giggling, I'm the shell of that girl. I look like her, but a lot can change in a year.

"Mom! I'm leaving! See ya!" I grab my bag and have a piece of toast hanging out my mouth. I rush out of the yellow house and onto the sidewalk on my way to school.

My friends catch up to me at the second stop sign and we start to chat. We finally come across Oakes woods, my secret pass way. I laugh at my friends as they give me weary looks.

"Look, Dasi, its really dark out still, I don't think I'm going through the woods today..." Chloe frowns. Several of the other girls agree and start walking the long way.

"Oh, come one guys! It'll be fine, a little rain cant hurt you unless your witchs..." They all give me angry looks except Genni, my best friend.

"I'll come with!" She calls and we start walking down the path way, using my light on my phone as a flashlight.

"They're all pansies..." I grumble, she nods her head with a "Mh" noise which I think means yes.

"Did you do the homework for Mr.Quino's class?"

I open my eyes and realize I was asleep for the whole hour and a half ride. I sigh and look out the windshield. We arrived to the dark oak wood log cabin, which is the court house in the small town of River-ford. The town is fairly large and has a river right through the middle of it. My house is on the opposite side of the courthouse. The town has a total population of 18,000 people.

Then he pulls up.
